CARMI -- Teutopolis Post 924 lost its opening game at the Fifth Division American Legion Baseball Playoffs Monday but came back with a victory to remain alive Wednesday.
T-town handed Mount Vernon Post 141 a 5-2 loss. T-town tallied a run in the second then didn't score again until the seventh with three runs and a final run in the ninth.
Andy Borries picked up the pitching win. Jacob Roepke hit a two-run homer in the seventh. Borries aided his own cause with a double. Other hits for T-town were Westendorf with a single, Kreke with a single, Smith with a single and an RBI and Flach with a single.
Mount Vernon had the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but a fielders’ choice to shortstop ended the rally.
In other games Wednesday, Edwardsville defeated Murphysboro 7-5 while Herrin blanked Harrisburg 10-0.
Teutopolis will now face Herrin today at 3:30 p.m. The winner of that contest advances to face Murphysboro at 7:30 p.m. The winner of that game will then take on Edwardsville for the championship Friday at 11 a.m.
