With a solid pitching staff and deep lineup, the St. Louis Cardinals can beat you in a variety of ways. This time, it was a rare triple for their All-Star catcher.

Yadier Molina hit the bases-loaded triple off David Robertson with two out in the eighth inning, sending the Cardinals to a 3-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night.

Randal Grichuk singled, Matt Holliday was hit by a pitch and Jason Heyward reached on catcher's interference before Molina drove a 2-2 pitch into the corner in right for his third hit of the game.

Molina is batting .429 (9 for 21) in his last four games. It was the first triple for the veteran catcher since May 22, 2011, and No. 4 for his career.

Cubs, Reds Split Doubleheader

Even after a win, the Reds still come away wondering: What's going to happen next? Todd Frazier extended his post-derby surge with three more hits on Wednesday, and Mike Leake was solid in what might have been his final start in Cincinnati, leading the Reds to a 9-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs in the opening game of a day-night doubleheader.

Leake (8-5) allowed four hits in eight innings, including Kyle Schwarber's RBI single. During the game, he thought about how it could be his final start for the Reds with the non-waiver trade deadline approaching.

"Yeah, I was," Leake said. "Each one from here on could be. It's very ironic that the first one and the last one could be against the same team."

Down by five runs early, the Chicago Cubs managed to pull one out in a most improbable way: A .154 hitter getting a single off a 101 mph pitch.

Taylor Teagarden singled home the tiebreaking run off Aroldis Chapman with two outs in the ninth inning Wednesday night, completing the Cubs' biggest comeback of the season for a 6-5 victory and a doubleheader split with the Cincinnati Reds.

"That's about as crazy as crazy gets," manager Joe Maddon said. "Talk about your esprit de corps moments. Almost everybody was involved in that win. Even the pitchers were putting their spikes on."
