Mid-Illinois Concrete and Washington Savings Bank advanced from opening round play in the Junior Babe Ruth League Baseball Tournament Thursday at Paul Smith Field.
Mid-Illinois defeated Tri-Power Towing 13-7 in the opener. The two teams were tied at 3-3 after the first inning. Mid-Illinois then had a three-run fourth for a 6-4 lead. Tri-Power came back with a four-run sixth to take a 7-6 lead. But Mid-Illinois put the game away with a seven-run bottom of the sixth.
Mid-Illinois had 10 hits led by Braden Repking with a single, two doubles and two RBI, Blake Niebrugge with a double, Hunter Stephens with a single, double and an RBI and Derek Kruger with two singles and three RBI.
Ben Strullmyer and Ethan Rozene had a double each for Tri-Power. Strullmyer had three RBI.
In the second contest, Washington Savings Bank defeated K. Wohltman Construction 11-4. Washington Savings Bank took a 2-0 first inning lead and never looked back.
Bryar Jansen had a single, two triples and three RBI for the winners. Collin Kreke had a triple and an RBI and Lee Hardiek a double. Tanner Gordon added two singles and two RBI.
Lucas Spark led K. Wohltman with a triple and an RBI.
