Effingham Post 120 Advances In Junior Legion Tourney, Other Scores

The Effingham Junior American Legion Post 120 baseball team advanced to the second round of the Junior Legion District Tournament by defeating Dieterich Post 628 16-3 Thursday.

Effingham scored 16 runs on 16 hits in just five innings. Brent Beals and Cody Utz gave up just three runs on four hits in the contest.

There were several hitting heroes for Effingham including Mason Hull with three doubles and Bryar Jansen with two singles and a double. Ryan Sandifer, Drew Gibson, Cory Osborn, Zac Bateman and Brogan Hull had two hits each.

"It was our best game of the season and our team is peaking at the right time of the year," said Coach Chris Koester. "I expect the guys to continue to be aggressive and loose for the remainder of the tournament."

Effingham advances to play a 2 p.m. game Saturday in Dieterich.

Teutopolis Post 924 bounced Altamont Post 512, 10-1. Also, Vandalia Post 95 edged South Central Post 519, 5-4, and Breese Post 252 Red won over Olney, 7-4.

Friday night, South Central will take on Altamont in the first game at Dieterich at 5:30 p.m. The winner of that contest will play Olney at 8 p.m. Meanwhile, at Newton, Vandalia will take on top-seeded Newton Post 20 at 7 p.m. Friday. The winner of the Vandalia/Newton game will play Effingham in the 2 p.m. Saturday game. The loser of the Vandalia/Newton game will play Dieterich at 9 a.m. Saturday.

A reminder that all Saturday and Sunday games will be played at Dieterich.
