Teutopolis Post 924 Claims District Senior Tourney Crown

Teutopolis Post 924 blanked Effingham Post 120, 7-0, to win the 23rd District East Senior Baseball Tournament Monday at Paul Smith Field.
Devin Smith tossed eight innings of shutout ball for T-town with two walks and seven strikeouts. He gave up three hits after carrying a no-hit performance into the eighth. T-town edged out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning, tacked on two in the second, three in the fifth and one final run in the seventh.
T-town's Smith, Andy Borries, John Kreke and Tommy Flach combined for 10 hits and five RBI with Kreke leading the way with two singles, two doubles and two RBI. Borries added a single and double and Flach two doubles and an RBI. Smith had two singles and two RBI.
A double by Flach in the third ignited the offense bringing home Borries. T-town built upon its lead in the fifth. Smith started the inning with a single, scoring Borries and Flach. That was followed up by Kreke's single, scoring Smith.
Kevin Daugherty was the first Effingham player to break through for a hit in the eighth with one out.
T-town now advances to the Division Tournament next weekend in Carmi. Effingham Post 120 ends the season with a 13-7 record.
