Effingham Senior Legion Claims DH, Shelby County Splits Twinbills

Effingham Senior Legion Post 120 claimed a doubleheader victory over Robinson Post 69 A Sunday.

In the opener, Carter Hayes went two for three as Effingham Legion was a 7-4 winner at Paul Smith Field. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the third. Lane Koenig struck out 10, paving the way for the win. Koenig allowed no earned runs, four hits and three walks over five 2/3 innings.

Effingham didn't surrender the lead after the second inning, scoring four runs on two doubles. Post 120 tacked on another three runs in the third.

Four runs in the top of the sixth helped Robinson Post 69 A close its deficit to 7-4.

In the second contest, Effingham scored two runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Hayes and an error. Hudson Graham racked up two RBI on two hits with a single in the second and a double in the fifth.

Bone held Robinson hitless over four innings, allowing no earned runs, walking two and striking out 10. Effingham never trailed after scoring a run in the third on an RBI single by Tyler Zuber. Effingham brought home two runs in the fifth and matched that run total in the sixth.

In a doubleheader Saturday, Piatt County Legion claimed two wins over Shelby County Legion Posts 289-611-725.

In the opener, Piatt County was a winner 4-1. The score was tied at 1-1 until the sixth when Piatt County tallied three runs.

Piatt County had three doubles in the contest. Shelby County was led by Devon Deremiah with a triple.

In the second contest, Piatt County tallied a 5-4 win. Shelby County held a 3-1 lead until the fifth when Piatt County tallied four more runs.

Shelby County was led by Hayden Cole with a triple and an RBI.

In a doubleheader Sunday, Shelby County handed Decatur Legion Post 105 a 7-4 defeat and Paris Legion Post 211, a 16-8 loss.

In the opener, Shelby County held a 7-0 lead until the sixth when Decatur tallied four runs. Christian Vonderheide picked up the pitching win on a five-hitter with one walk and six strikeouts.

Tyler Romack had a single, double and four RBI for the winners.

In the second contest, Shelby County put the contest away early with a 16-8 win. Shelby County played long ball with two triples and five doubles.

Alex Allen had two singles, a double and two RBI while Mark Jones had four singles and three RBI, Romack two singles, a double and two RBI, Cole a single, double and two RBI, Luke McConnell three singles and an RBI, Dylan Ohnesorge a single, double and three RBI, Deremiah a triple and Jacob Kramer two singles, a double and an RBI.
