Chicago manager Joe Maddon liked how his team played against Washington this weekend. He just wants the Cubs to play that way all the time.

Kris Bryant tripled, doubled, singled and scored twice as the Cubs sent the Washington Nationals to their eighth loss in 10 games, 6-3 Sunday.

"I've been saying it all along," Maddon said. "I know we can play with the big boys in this league, but you've got to prove it. We have played less effectively against teams that have been struggling this year, and we've got to stop that."

The Cubs won three of four in this series. Bryant finished the series with six hits, a .282 average and feeling better at the plate.

Cardinals 4, Dodgers 2

If the St. Louis Cardinals end up meeting the Los Angeles Dodgers in the postseason for the third straight year, the seven games they played in June will only add to their confidence against them. And Jhonny Peralta will be a big reason why.

Peralta homered and singled home the go-ahead run during a three-run eighth inning Sunday night, leading the Cardinals to a 4-2 victory. The shortstop was 11 for 21 with two home runs and eight RBI during the seven-game season series, which they won 5-2 against the team they knocked out of the playoffs in each of the previous two years.

"Jhonny's a real difference maker. He's been putting together some good at-bats and getting some big RBI for us," manager Mike Matheny said. "We've been firing him into that cleanup spot, but he's fit wherever we've put him. He's just a guy who's going to sneak up on you like he did tonight. The next thing you know, he's got three hits."

Tigers 6, White Sox 4

Yoenis Cespedes and J.D. Martinez homered in the sixth inning to power the Detroit Tigers past the Chicago White Sox 6-4 on Sunday. The Tigers have won consecutive games after dropping eight straight, their longest skid since 2005.

Alfredo Simon (6-3) struck out seven and allowed four runs -- one earned -- in eight innings. Joakim Soria earned his 16th save in 18 chances.

Detroit finished with 10 hits after getting 18 on Saturday. The middle of the order -- Cespedes, Tyler Collins and Martinez -- combined for eight hits and six RBI.

The Tigers rallied with three runs in the sixth on homers by Cespedes and Martinez, who had three RBI.
