Hearts Sweep Doubleheader from Centralia

The Effingham Hearts closed out their regular season in style Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader from the Centralia Orphans, 7-4 and 8-1.

After seven lead changes, the Hearts pulled off the 7-4 win in the opener. Effingham scored four runs in the fifth inning to post the win, including a single by Braydon Bone that drove in Blake White and Reed Schafer.

Schafer had a four-for-four game for the Hearts, all singles, and scored twice.

Effingham got the scoring started in the first when Carter Hayes doubled home Braydon Bone. Bone singled and walked in the game, drove in two runs and scored twice. Adam Koester had two base hits and walked. Brennan Poland walked and scored two runs. Hayes also walked. Hudson Graham doubled and walked and drove in two runs. White singled and walked and scored a run. 

Kevin Daugherty pitched four innings and picked up the win, allowing two runs on four hits, walking two and fanning two. Bone pitched three innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on one hit and three walks while striking out five.

In the second game, Adam Koester shined, driving in three runs on two hits and pitching a complete game for the win. Koester scattered six hits and walked three while striking out six.

Also for Effingham, Braydon Bone walked twice and scored a run, Brennan Poland doubled and singled, drove in a run and scored twice, Carter Hayes doubled and singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice, Hudson Graham singled twice and drove in three runs, Reed Schafer singled and scored, and Eli Buhrman singled twice and scored a run.

Effingham wraps up the regular season with a 19-12 record. They'll host their own regional beginning Monday, with Effingham's first game on Wednesday at 6pm at Paul Smith Field.
