T-town Advances To Baseball Regional Championship

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Teutopolis High School moved into the championship of the Class 2A Lawrenceville Baseball Regional by blanking Robinson 8-0 Wednesday.

The two teams went scoreless through the first two innings before the Wooden Shoes broke it open with a seven-run third then tacked on a final run in the fourth.

Kyle Smith was the winning pitcher on a one-hitter with two walks and 10 strikeouts.

Jordan Thoele hit a solo home run for the Shoes. Tommy Flach added a double and an RBI. Seven players had one hit each for the Shoes.

T-town advances to the title contest with a 27-5-1 record and will face either Flora or Newton at 10 a.m. Saturday for the championship. Flora and Newton play today.

Class 1A North Clay Regional

Brownstown/St. Elmo edged South Central 7-6 in the North Clay (Louisville) Regional Wednesday.

BSE took a 5-2 opening inning lead and led 7-4 going into the seventh when South Central made a comeback bid with two runs only to fall short.

BSE had five hits led by Nate Matthews with a double and an RBI and Andrew Koonce with a double.

South Central was led by Ryan Matheny with a single, home run and four RBI and Trent Geiler with two singles. The Cougars finish the season at 14-12.

BSE advances to the championship game Saturday at 10 a.m. with a 12-14 mark. BSE will face either Altamont or North Clay for the title. Those two teams play today at 4:30 p.m.

Class 1A Cumberland Regional

Neoga handed Hutsonville/Palestine an 11-1 loss in the Cumberland Regional Wednesday.

The Indians took a 3-0 first inning lead. Trevor Moore picked up the pitching win allowing four hits over five innings with seven strikeouts. Moore also had a single, double, triple and drove in two runs. Guy Walk had a double and an RBI.

Neoga improves to 18-7 and will meet either Casey-Westfield or Cumberland for the regional championship at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Effingham St. Anthony bounced Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 16-0. No other information was reported on the game.

St. Anthony advances to the championship game to meet wither Dieterich or Oblong at 11 a.m. Saturday. Those two teams play today at 4:30 p.m.

 

Class 1A Moweaqua Central A&M Regional

Bethany Okaw Valley was set to meet Arcola but the game was postponed due to the weather Wednesday.

That game will be played today at 4:30 p.m. at Assumption. Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will take on Mowequa Central A&M today at 4:30 p.m.
