The Effingham Hearts clinched the 2015 Baseball City Series with a 6-2 win over the St. Anthony Bulldogs Thursday night.

The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.

Effingham now holds a 2-0 lead in the series with Game Three set for Friday at 7 p.m., again at Paul Smith Field. The game will be broadcast.

Carter Hayes nailed a two-run homer, sparking the Hearts in the first inning. Kevin Daugherty handled St. Anthony's lineup, racking up 10 strikeouts. Daugherty allowed one earned run on five hits and one walk over seven innings.

The Hearts piled on two more runs in the top of the third. A sacrifice fly scored Adam Koester for the innings' first run. That was followed up by Michael Woltman's single, plating Brennan Poland.

EHS dented the plate with a run in the fifth on an RBI single by Reed Schafer bringing home Hudson Graham.

Two runs in the bottom of the sixth helped  St. Anthony close its deficit to 5-2. An RBI triple by Drew Gibson and a passed ball gave the Bulldogs life.

But the Hearts pushed across a final run in the seventh.
