Hearts Blank Bulldogs 6-0 in Game One of City Series

Braydon Bone pitched six shutout innings, fanning 10, and had a two-run home run among his three hits as the Effingham Hearts grabbed Game One of the 2015 City Series, downing the St. Anthony Bulldogs 6-0.

The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.

Bone struck out 10, paving the way for the win. He tossed six innings of shutout ball and allowed only three hits.

The Flaming Hearts beat St. Anthony thanks to 10 hits, including five extra base hits. EHS scored three runs in the second on an RBI double by Reed Schafer and a two-run homer by Bone. Bone finished with a single in the first and a single in the fifth along with his homer.

Ryan Barnes put away the final three outs to record the save. EHS tallied a 1-0 first inning lead on an RBI double by Brennan Poland.  The Hearts then tacked on three more in the second and two in the fifth.

Poland added a single to his double. Adam Koester had a single and double while Hudson Graham and Schafer had a double each.

St. Anthony had four hits, all singles by, Drew Gibson, James Kabbes, Bryar Jansen and Ethan Greene.

Game Two is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, also at Paul Smith Field at Community Park.
