PITTSBURGH--Their ace's season is over. Their most versatile hitter is back home in St. Louis dealing with a couple of unexpected health issues. No biggie. The Cardinals keep right on rolling.

Matt Holliday and Kolten Wong hit three-run homers and Michael Wacha remained unbeaten as the St. Louis Cardinals held off the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-5 on Friday night.

Holliday sent a towering shot to left-center off Francisco Liriano (1-2) in the third inning and Wong put it away with a drive over the Clemente Wall in right off Arquimedes Caminero in the seventh. Jhonny Peralta also homered for the Cardinals, who have won 10 of 11.

MILWAUKEE--The Chicago Cubs bullpen gave manager Joe Maddon some late-game headaches. Three relievers nearly squandered the solid start from Jason Hammel on Friday night, but four homers gave the Cubs enough of a cushion to hold the Milwaukee Brewers' own late power surge.

Hector Rondon struck out Gerardo Parra with two outs in the ninth and the tying run on second to preserve Chicago's 7-6 victory.

Rookie Jorge Soler hit a two-run homer, and Chicago got solo shots from Dexter Fowler, Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro.

The Cubs added another run after Addison Russell singled and advanced to third on two straight throwing errors with two outs in the top of the ninth. Kris Bryant hit an infield single that was overturned on replay review from an out call to drive home Russell two batters later and make it 7-3 going into the bottom of the ninth.

However, Milwaukee got to Rondon. Ryan Braun hit a three-run homer to the right field corner to make it a one-run game with two outs in the ninth. The Brewers followed with two more singles to bring up Parra.
