Newton Tallies Big In Win Over South Central, Area Baseball Scores

KINMUNDY -- Newton High School had the big bats and scored lots of runs in a 21-8 win over South Central in baseball action Thursday.
The Cougars took the early lead at 2-0 in the first. But Newton came back with four runs in the second, one in the third and then took over the rest of the way for the win.
The Eagles banged out 17 hits in the contest and were aided by seven South Central errors.
Grunloh had three singles and two RBI while Reis had two singles and two RBI. Mammoser was the winning pitcher on a seven-hitter with four strikeouts.
Matheny led South Central with two home runs and four RBI. The Cougars are now 13-10.

At Brownstown
Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran edged Brownstown/St. Elmo 16-15 Thursday.
CORL had a 2-0 first inning lead then brought home 13 runs in the second. BSE fought back to pull within 15-13 going into the seventh. CORL tallied a run in the top of the seventh. BSE rallied again, this time pulling within 16-15 only to fall short.
Drake Hall had a single, double and three RBI for BSE. Landon Feezel had two singles and an RBI and Cole Horner a double and three RBI. BSE drops to 9-11.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run fifth and tallied a 5-1 win over Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Thursday.
Ohnesorge was the winning pitcher on a five-hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts.
Ohnesorge also was on offensively with a single and double while C. Kessler added a single and double.
