Cardinal favorites Whitey Herzog and Glenn Brummer will visit Effingham Saturday evening as part of a salute to Youth Baseball at the Effingham Performance Center.

Doors for the event will open at 6pm with the program to begin at 6:30pm. The evening will begin with a procession of all of the area baseball players. All of those young people who attend wearing their uniforms will be admitted free. Tickets for others attending will cost $25 and tickets will be on sale at the door. Make checks payable to either Teutopolis Sportsbackers or Effingham Sportsbackers.

Following recognition for those involved in youth baseball, a short intermission will take place and then Whitey and Glenn will take the stage for a conversation with our own Greg Sapp and with Steve Raymond of the Effingham-Teutopolis News Report.

Co-sponsors for the evening are Taylor Law Offices, Servpro and McDonald's Linders Limited.

Longtime professional baseball player Shawn Garrett who played high school baseball at South Central will also be a part of the evening as will some current minor leagues from this area who are home while rehabilitating from injuries.

Greg had an opportunity to speak by phone earlier this week with Whitey Herzog about youth baseball, his years with the Cardinals, and the event this Saturday night. Here's that interview...
