Hearts Pound Casey-Westfield; Other Friday Baseball

The Effingham Hearts pounded out 16 hits en route to a 15-3 win Friday over Casey-Westfield.

The Hearts scored three times in the second, got a run in the third, scored twice each in the fourth and fifth, and sealed the deal with seven runs in the seventh inning. 

Carter Hayes had a four-for-four game for the Hearts including a home run and a double, and drove in four runs. Swayde Sanders had three hits including a double and drove in a pair of runs. Effingham got seven hits and six RBI from the top two spots in the order. 

Adam Koester pitched three innings for the Hearts, allowing the three runs, two earned, on two hits, striking out seven. Brennan Poland got the win, pitching four shutout innings, giving up just two hits and a walk while fanning six.

Reed Schafer doubled and singled and Hudson Graham had two hits for Effingham, with Hudson driving in a run. Michael Woltman singled, Koester singled and drove in a run, Poland doubled, Braydon Bone singled and drove in two runs, and Ryan Barnes doubled and drove in two runs.

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes suffered a rare loss Friday, 7-4 at the hands of the Mt. Zion Braves.

Mt. Zion took a 2-0 first inning lead, but the Shoes scored their four runs in the second to take a 4-2 lead. Mt. Zion, though, got a run back in the bottom of the inning and then regained the lead with two runs in the third inning, adding two more runs in the fifth.

Kyle Smith took the loss to drop to 1-1 on the spring, allowing all seven runs, six earned, on seven hits and six walks while fanning three. Matt Koester pitched the final 1-2/3 innings, allowing one hit.

Tommy Flach singled and drove in two runs for T-Town, Devin Smith doubled and singled and drove in a run, Brock Mette doubled and Austin Johnson singled, while Jordan Thoele drove in a run.

Teutopolis drops to 11-3 on the season, while Mt. Zion improved to 12-7.

Mulberry Grove won over Brownstown/St. Elmo, 4-2. Drake Hall took the loss. For BSE, Hall, Lewis Brown, Noah Flowers and Nate Matthews had hits, Flowers recording a double. Hall drove in a run.

Hall went the distance, allowing eight hits, walking two and fanning four.

BSE is now 5-10 on the spring.

Neoga swept a doubleheader from Dieterich, 10-0 and 11-6.

Moore and Sheehan teamed up on the shutout for Neoga, Moore allowing just four hits and two walks in six innings of work while striking out seven. Sheehan's perfect inning included two strikeouts. P. Thoele took the loss for Dieterich, allowing five runs, just one earned, on 12 hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Esker pitched the final two innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on three hits and two walks while striking out one batter.

C. Thoele, P. Thoele, Campton and Flach each singled for Dieterich's hits. Hoedebecke, Monroe, Hoedebecke and Ramert each got two hits for Neoga, Kingery doubled, and Moore, Butler, Hill, Andrews, Yurs, Wood, and Nees each singled. Moore, Butler, and Wood each drove in two runs for the Indians. Other RBI were recorded by Walk, Andrews, Yurs, and Nees each drove in a run.

In the other contest, Hoedebecke and Kingery teamed up for the Neoga win, Hoedebecke allowing four runs in three innings and Kingery the other two runs in four innings of work. The pair teamed up for the win despite allowing 13 hits and seven walks. C. Thoele allowed nine runs, five earned in five innings for Dieterich, while Schmidt allowed two runs in two innings.

Dieterich suffered the loss despite recording 13 hits. Moore had three hits including a double for Neoga, Walk and Yurs each had two hits, and Monroe, Kingery, Hill, and Hoedebecke each had a hit, Monroe and Kingery each getting a double. Hill drove in three runs, Monroe two runs, and Kingery, Walk and Yurs each drove in a run. For Dieterich, Radloff, Poe and P. Thoele each had three hits, and Hartke and Flach each had two hits. Poe drove in two runs and Radloff, P. Thoele and Flach each drove in a run.
