Herzog to Appear at Effingham Performance Center May 9

Former St. Louis Cardinals manager, Whitey Herzog, will be making an appearance Saturday, May 9 at the Effingham Performance Center.
Herzog is the keynote speaker celebrating the "Boys of Summer". All proceeds from the event will go to benefit Effingham, Teutopolis and American Legion baseball programs.
Herzog was born in New Athens, Illinois and started his Major League baseball career playing for the Washington Senators in 1956. His career didn't last long, ending in 1963.
He worked as a scout in the Major League baseball system and became a manager for the Kansas City Royals where he took them to three consecutive playoff appearances from 1976-1978.
He was hired by St. Louis in 1980 and guided the Cardinals to three World Series appearances. The team won the World Series in 1982 and appeared in 1985 and 1987. Herzog was the manager until 1990.
He was inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame July 25, 2010 and into the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame Museum August 16, 2014. His number 24 was retired by the Cardinals.
