Neoga High School stepped out to a 5-1 lead in the third inning and never relinquished that lead in an 8-7 win over Effingham in baseball competition Tuesday.

The Indians put together a three-run third inning to lead 8-2. Effingham came back with a four-run fifth to pull within 8-6 and tacked on a final run in the sixth.

Guy Walk picked up the pitching win for Neoga with five strikeouts and three walks. Caleb Hill recorded the save.

Effingham outhit Neoga 8-6. The Hearts were led by Braydon Bone with a single and double and Hudson Graham with a double.

Neoga was led by Drew Ramert with a double and two RBI and Matt Kingery with two singles and an RBI.

At Dieterich

Dieterich stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead and ended the game in the fifth via the 10-run rule 12-0 over Brownstown/St. Elmo.

Alex Bohnhoff picked up the pitching win on a one-hitter with one walk and five strikeouts.

The Movin' Maroons had hot bats with 12 hits in the contest including six extra base hits. Poe led with two singles, a double and four RBI. Thoele had two doubles. Radloff had two doubles and an RBI while Thoele had three singles and two RBI. Mellendorf added a double. The Maroons are now 2-6.

Brownstown/St. Elmo had only one hit, a single by Drake Hall. BSE drops to 5-8.

At Louisville

South Central outlasted North Clay (Louisville) 14-13 in competition Tuesday.

The Cougars had 17 hits in the game led by Harmeier with two singles, two doubles and two RBI. Smith added two singles, a double and three RBI. Markley had a single, home run and four RBI. 

Aldrich led the Cardinals with a single, home run and an RBI while VanDyke had a single, double, home run and four RBI.

Altamont pounded Ramsey to the tune of 21-1 in five innings. The Indians held a 4-1 first inning lead then added eight runs in the second, one in the third, five in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Miller had a single, two doubles and three RBI for the winners. Rucketts added 3 singles, a double and five RBI. Wolff had two singles, a double and three RBI and Guerrettaz three singles and five RBI.

Mattoon edged Newton 9-8. The Green Wave took a 1-0 first inning lead. Newton came back with five runs in the fourth and led 6-4 going into the seventh. Mattoon then broke loose with five runs. The Eagles mounted a comeback in the bottom of the frame only to fall a run short.

Newton was led by Bierman with a single and double, Geier with three singles and an RBI and Carr with two singles and two RBI.
