The shortstop of the future and the shortstop of the present happen to be on the Chicago Cubs' roster at the same time. Yet manager Joe Maddon isn't worried. He's been around the game long enough to know these things tend to work themselves out. Maybe Addison Russell will take over for Starlin Castro at some point. The way Castro is playing, it won't be anytime soon.

Castro went 3 for 5 with 4 RBIs, including a game-tying two-run single in the ninth, and the Cubs rallied for a 9-8 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night. Wellington Castillo followed Castro's big hit with an RBI groundout off Pittsburgh closer Mark Melancon (0-1) as Chicago overcame a late three-run deficit to win for the third time in four games.

Nationals 2, Cardinals 1

Heading toward a throng of excited Washington Nationals teammates after his first game-ending homer in four years, Yunel Escobar jumped head-first toward the plate.

Returning to the lineup after sitting out two games with a groin injury, Escobar drove an 89 mph fastball from former teammate Carlos Villanueva to left with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, lifting the Nationals to a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night.

It was the second homer of 2015 for Escobar, acquired this offseason in the deal that sent setup man Tyler Clippard to Oakland. Escobar was supposed to be Washington's starting second baseman but has been filling in at third while Anthony Rendon is on the disabled list.

Indians 6, White Sox 2

On a cold night in Chicago, Carlos Carrasco worked an efficient five innings in his first start since being smacked in the face with a line drive against these same White Sox. The Cleveland Indians bullpen took it from there in a 6-2 win Tuesday at U.S. Cellular Field, where the temperatures slipped into the lower 40s with wind chills in the 30s.

"I felt a little bit tight, so they took me out," said Carrasco who went seven days between starts. "I missed a week or something like that, so they wanted to take care of it and they did the right move."

Carrasco struck out eight and allowed just one run on four hits, while Carlos Santana and David Murphy hit solo home runs and the Indians snapped a two-game losing streak.
