Wooden Shoes Blank Flora, S.C., Newton Claim Victories

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and went on to blank Flora 6-0 in high school baseball action Monday.

The Wooden Shoes banged out 14 hits in the contest with four extra base hits. Jordan Thoele had two singles, a double and an RBI while Austin Hartke added a single, double and two RBI. Tommy Flach had a single, double and one RBI. Devin Smith had a double and an RBI. Jacob Roepke and Louis Niemerg had two singles each.

Austin Johnson picked up the pitching win, going six innings, allowing two hits, two walks and striking out 12. Johnson improves to 2-0. Matt Koester came on in the seventh, allowing no hits, no walks and striking out three.

Teutopolis claimed a freshman/sophomore contest over Robinson 13-3 in five innings. Ethyn Dust was the winning pitcher.

The Wooden Shoes are now 10-2 on the season while Flora dropped to 7-10. T-town will play host to Effingham St. Anthony today at 4:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on 97.9 XFM.

At Bridgeport

Newton trounced Red Hill (Bridgeport) 13-0 in five innings via the 10-run rule Monday.

The Eagles held a 4-0 lead going into the fourth then brought home four runs and finished with five in the fifth.

Blake Probst pitched a one-hitter with four walks and two strikeouts. Nick Reis had two singles, a home run and two RBI for the winners. Mitch Jansen had three singles and an RBI, Luke Geier two doubles and five RBI, Brock Mammoser two singles and three RBI and Mitch Bierman two singles and an RBI.

Newton is now 3-1 in the Little Illini Conference, 7-5 overall.

At Kinmundy

South Central banged out 17 hits and scored 12 runs to edge Vandalia 12-11.

Ryan Matheny pushed his pitching record to 2-0. Matheny pitched two innings, allowed three runs, two hits, two walks and one strikeout.

Dylan Smith had three singles, a home run and drove in four runs for the Cougars. Brett Harmeier had three singles and two RBI. Dre Hill had three singles and three RBI.

The Cougars are now 9-3 on the season.
