Effingham Junior High School captured the South Central Conference baseball championship by blanking Mattoon 3-0 Tuesday.

The Mustangs tallied single runs in the second, fourth and sixth inmings behind 10 hits. Osborn had two singles and drove in two runs for the Mustangs. Koester and Donaldson had a single and a double each. Donaldson added an RBI.

Koenig picked up the pitching win to improve to 5-0, allowing two hits, three walks and striking out 12.

Effingham is now 13-1 on the season and 4-0 in the conference.

Sacred Heart 14, Beecher City 4

The Shamrocks of Effingham Sacred Heart blasted out 14 runs on 13 hits and downed Beecher City 14-4 in five innings.

Sacred Heart stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead and never looked back in this one. Helmink had three singles for the winners while R. Kruger had two singles, a double and four RBI, Schafer three singles and Swingler two singles and two RBI.

St. Elmo trailed Mulberry Grove 3-1 after two innings but tied in the third inning then went on for a 23-11 victory.

Feezel went four-for-four with four RBI and six stolen bases for the winners. Chaney had three hits and three RBI.

Teutopolis traveled to Sullivan and came home a winner. T-town had six hits in the contest.

Dieterich edged Cumberland. Paul Thoele picked up the pitching win.

North Clay 22, Odin 9

North Clay (Louisville) picked up this win easily behind 14 hits. B. Walker, Q. Aldrich and J. Bloemer had three hits each. Bloemer drove in seven runs while Aldrich had five and Walker three.

Walker picked up the pitching win going three innings, allowing three hits while striking out five.

North Clay improves to 8-2 on the season and is back in action Thursday against South Central.

Jasper County downed Neoga 11-1. Jasper County tallied eight runs in the fifth inning and tacked on three more in the sixth.

Tim Weber had a single and a double to lead the winners. Mitch Jansen picked up the pitching win as Jasper County improved to 8-2.

Japer County edged Red Hill (Bridgeport) 4-3 Friday.
