EHS Splits Conference Baseball, Area Roundup DH

CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School picked up the opening game of an Apollo Conference doubleheader over Charleston but fel lin the second game in 12 innings Saturday.
The Hearts won the opener 4-0, scoring single runs in the third and sixth and two runs in the fifth.
EHS had 10 hits in the contest led by Brayden Bone with two singles and a double, Brennan Poland with two singles and an RBI and Adam Koester with two singles.
Hudson Graham pitched the entire game, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out eight.
The second game went 12 innings before Charleston pulled out a 3-2 victory. Effingham took a 1-0 first inning lead before Charleston tied in the fourth. The two teams went seven more innings before EHS took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 12. But the Trojans came back with two in the bottom of the frame to pull out the win.
The Hearts are now 5-4 on the season.

At Tuscola
Effingham St. Anthony fell twice in the Tuscola Invitational Saturday.
In the opening game for the Bulldogs, Tuscola claimed a 16-5 victory behind 17 hits. Tuscola held a 9-1 opening inning lead and ended the game in the fifth.
St. Anthony had five hits led by Lorenz with a home run and two RBI.
In the second contest, Salt Fork blanked the Bulldogs 2-0. Salt Fork tallied both runs in the fourth. St. Anthony had one hit.

At Vandalia
Brownstown/St. Elmo fell twice in the Vandalia Tournament Saturday.
In the opener, host Vandalia claimed an 8-1 victory behind eight hits. Vandalia had two three-run innings.
BSE had two hits, singles by Cole Horner and Isaac Maxey.
In the second contest, Okawville was a 3-0 winner with nine hits. BSE again had two hits by Maxey and Landon Feezel.

Shelbyville edged Cumberland 4-3 in action Saturday.
The Pirates held a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Shelbyville came back with a run in the fourth and tied the score with two runs in the sixth. The winning run came in the bottom of the seventh.
Cumberland was led by Kanizer with two singles and Kutts with a single and double.
