Effingham St. Anthony hosted Altamont in baseball competition Wednesday and claimed a 14-4 win in six innings via the 10-run rule.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead on an error, a single by Braden Puckett and a double by Bryar Jansen.

Altamont came back with a four-run third to take the lead. Caden Miller led off by drawing a walk. With one out, Jacob Miller drew a walk and Winn followed with a single. A walk and a passed ball with a single by Finn ended the frame with the lead for the Indians.

But St. Anthony pulled within 4-3 in the bottom of the third, tied the game in the fourth and then tallied six runs in the fifth and four in the sixth.

James Kabbes led the hitting corps with two singles, a double, triple and three RBI. Drew Gibson added a double and two RBI, Jacob Lorenz two singles and an RBI, Jansen with a single, double and an RBI and Braden Puckett with three singles and an RBI.

Altamont was led by Winn with two singles and Finn with two singles and two RBI.

At Effingham

The Hearts stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead and went on to blank Shelbyville 8-0 Wednesday.

Bone picked up the pitching win, going four innings, not allowing a hit, one walk and striking out 10. Barnes came on to pitch two innings, allowing one hit and one walk. Poland pitched the final inning with two strikeouts.

Graham had two singles and a double for the winners.  Woltman had a double and drove in three runs while Shafer had a double with two RBI.

Brachbill had the lone hit for Shelbyville with a single.

At Teutopolis

The Wooden Shoes held a 1-0 first inning lead and went on for a 12-1 win over Salem in five innings.

The Shoes had eight hits in the contest led by the long ball. Niemerg had a home run and an RBI while Thoele had a home run and three RBI and Hartke a home run and four RBI. Kreke finshed with a single, double and two RBI and Johnson two singles.

The Shoes are now 4-0 on the season and back in action today at Greenville. Salem drops to 3-3.

At Teutopolis

South Central trounced Brownstown/St. Elmo 16-0 in five innings. The Cougars brought home eight runs in the first and eight runs in the second.

South Central had 13 hits led by Hill with a single, home run and three RBI and Harmeier with a single, home run and three RBI. The Cougars improve to 2-0.

BSE was led by Matthews with a single and double. BSE drops to 1-4.

At Kinmundy

Neoga edged Marshall 7-6. The Indians held a 6-3 lead after four innings then added on a run in the top of the seventh. Marshall came roaring back with a three-run bottom of the seventh only to fall.

Matt Kingery had a single, home run and three RBI for the winners. Trevor Moore added a single and an RBI. The Indians improve to 3-0 on the season.

Newton went scoreless through the first six innings but scored when it counted for a 4-3 win over Olney.

Olney tallied three runs in the fifth and held that until the seventh. Blake Probst picked up the pitching win on a seven-hitter with one strikeout.

Bierman had a double and an RBI for the winners.

Cumberland scored 10 runs in the top of the seventh inning and claimed an 18-8 win over Arcola. The Pirates held a 8-6 lead going into the big 10th inning.

 The Pirates had 19 hits in the contest. Hayden Kanizer had three singles, a double and five RBI while Sam Bauguss had two singles, a home run and three RBI. Cumberland is now 4-1 on the season.
