St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright gave up four runs, including a solo homer by Giancarlo Stanton, in 3 2/3 innings Thursday before a rain delay ended his outing in a 5-3 loss to the Miami Marlins. Wainwright gave up six hits in his second spring start and struggled with his fastball.

After rain held up play for 55 minutes, Wainwright went to the indoor batting cages for more work. Pitching coach Derek Lilliquist noticed a flaw in Wainwright's mechanics. Wainwright threw 65 pitches on the field and an estimated 25 more in the cage. Jason Heyward hit his first home run with St. Louis.

Angels 8, Cubs 4

Albert Pujols hit a three-run homer and Jered Weaver struck out eight as the Los Angeles Angels beat the Chicago Cubs 8-4 Thursday. Cubs left-hander Travis Wood homered off Weaver leading off the fifth as a pinch hitter. Wood hit three homers last season. He pitched Wednesday.

Weaver gave up four runs -- three earned -- and six hits in 5 1/3 innings. Mike Olt hit a two-run homer and a triple for the Cubs.

Dodgers 9, White Sox 6

Clayton Kershaw will have to avoid certain foods for at least a few more days. Everything else seems to be right on track for the Los Angeles Dodgers' ace. Kershaw struck out eight in six innings, and Yasiel Puig and Jimmy Rollins homered to help the Dodgers defeat the Chicago White Sox 9-6 on Thursday.

The left-hander showed no ill effects from his previous outing against Oakland last Friday, when he was hit in the jaw by a line drive and chipped a tooth. He gave up four hits and a run, walking one and recording at least one strikeout in every inning while lowering his spring training ERA to 1.86.
