Tyson Ross gave up one hit in five shutout innings, Cameron Maybin hit a two-run double and the San Diego Padres defeated the Chicago White Sox 10-4 Monday.

The only hit allowed by Ross was a lazy fly to center by Conor Gillaspie in the fourth that landed for a double when Maybin lost it in the sun.

"I set a good tempo early, and I was able to execute some pitches," said Ross, who struck out five and walked one.

The right-hander is looking forward to being part of a Padres rotation that also includes James Shields and Andrew Cashner.

Cardinals, Red Sox Rained Out

The spring training game between St. Louis and the Boston Red Sox on Monday was rained out with the Cardinals leading in the middle of the fifth inning. With the game three outs shy of being official, rain started and the game was called after a 55-minute wait. There was standing water on the field when the decision was made not to continue. Boston's Rick Porcello gave up two runs and six hits in five innings.
