Effingham St. Anthony High School trailed Mount Zion 3-1 after the first inning and 5-3 after two in the season opening baseball game Tuesday. The Bulldogs tallied two in the fourth to tie and scored two more in the fifth for the 7-5 victory.
Both teams had seven hits. The Braves committed three errors.
Will Clausius had the only extra base hit for the Bulldogs with a double and two RBI. Jacob Lorenz and James Kabbes had two singles and two RBI each.
Zach Gardewine pitched five innings allowing five runs, seven hits, two walks and striking out three. Kyle Bourgeois came on to pitch two innings allowing no hits, three walks and striking out one.
