Padres Beat Winless Cubs

MESA, Ariz. -- Andrew Cashner pitched three hitless innings, Will Middlebrooks had a three-run homer and the San Diego Padres beat the winless Chicago Cubs 6-3 Monday. Cashner struck out three and walked one.

After the outing, Padres manager Bud Black walked with Cashner to the clubhouse to inform him of a personal matter that happened back in Texas. Black didn't disclose any details regarding the Texas native.

Red Sox Blank Cardinals

Michael Wacha hopes to put an injury-filled 2014 behind. Wacha retired all six batters he faced in his spring training debut, and six Boston Red Sox pitchers combined on a six-hitter in a 3-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday. Wacha struck out four and threw 27 pitches in two perfect innings.

A postseason sensation in 2013, Wacha missed most of last year because of an injured right shoulder. He pitched to big league hitters for the first time since allowing a three-run homer in the ninth inning to San Francisco's Travis Ishikawa in the clinching Game 5 of the NL Championship Series last October.

White Sox, Diamondbacks Tie

Micah Johnson belted a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Chicago White Sox tied the Arizona Diamondbacks, 3-3 on Monday. Paul Goldschmidt drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Tuffy Gosewich and Danny Worth added run-scoring singles for the Diamondbacks. A.J. Pollock went 3 for 3, while Brandon Drury went 2 for 3.

Arizona led 2-0 in the seventh before Trayce Thompson had sacrifice fly and Juan Diaz homered to tie it. The White Sox had a chance to win it when J.B. Shuck followed Johnson's homer with a single, then advanced to third on an errant pickoff throw by Enrique Burgos. But Diaz grounded out and Courtney Hawkins flew out to end the game.
