White Sox To Retire Konerko's Number

(Chicago, IL) -- The White Sox will retire the number-14 of former captain Paul Konerko on Saturday, May 23rd. The team will hold a ceremony before that day's game against the Twins at U.S. Cellular Field. Konerko will be the 11th player to have his number retired by the White Sox, including Dodgers Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson.  Konerko was a six-time All-Star who had a .279 career average with 439 home runs in 18 seasons overall.

The White Sox have avoided arbitration with three players. Pitchers Javy Guerra, Nate Jones and Hector Noesi all agreed to one-year contracts. Guerra will make nearly $940,000 while Jones will bring in 660,000. Noesi will make $1.95-million.

San Diego To Host 2016 All-Star Game

The San Diego Padres will host the 2016 All-Star Game. Major League Baseball made the announcement Thursday at the conclusion of its quarterly meetings in Arizona. San Diego will host the All-Star Game for the third time, but it will be the first for Petco Park, which opened in 2004.

Jack Murphy Stadium hosted the Mid-Summer Classic in 1978 and 1992. Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park will host this year's All-Star Game. San Diego's selection for next year will mark the second time in recent years that the contest will be played in National League parks consecutively, as Pittsburgh hosted in 2006 and San Francisco followed in 2007.
