(Sosua, Dominican Republic) -- The Cardinals are paying their respects to late outfielder Oscar Taveras. Manager Mike Matheny and GM John Mozeliak attended the funeral for the 22-year-old Tuesday in his native Dominican Republic. Taveras was killed in a single car crash on Sunday.
There is no immediate evidence to suggest alcohol played a role in the crash that killed Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras on Sunday. TMZ Sports cites Dominican Republic police as saying the 22-year-old was driving "very, very fast" on a wet road when he lost control.
Taveras was remembered at the World Series. A moment of silence was held before Tuesday's Game Six of the World Series in Kansas City. Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura grew up with Taveras and wrote "RIP O.T. #18" on the front of his cap.
