(Kansas City, MO) -- The World Series returns to Kansas City for the first time in 29 years as the Royals host the San Francisco Giants tonight in Game One at Kauffman Stadium. James Shields takes the mound for the Royals, while the Giants counter with National League Championship Series MVP Madison Bumgarner. The Royals are 8-0 this postseason, beating the A's in the Wild Card game, sweeping the Angels in the ALDS and then doing the same to the Orioles in the ALCS.
The Giants are in the Fall Classic for the third time in five seasons, having won in both 2010 and 2012. San Francisco got past Pittsburgh in the Wild Card game, beat the Nationals in the NLDS and the Cardinals in the NLCS to advance. The Giants are seeking their eighth World Series title overall. The Royals are in the Fall Classic for the third time, but first since winning it all in 1985. KC swept three games from San Francisco earlier this season.
"Sporting News" Names White Sox's Abreu Top Rookie
White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu is being honored as the American League's top rookie by "Sporting News." Abreu hit .317 with 36 home runs and 107 RBI this season. Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom earned the publication's honor for the National League.
Cardinals' Jay To Have Wrist Surgery
(St. Louis, MO) -- Cardinals outfielder Jon Jay will have surgery on his ailing left wriSt. GM John Mozeliak says Jay will have his wrist scoped on Wednesday and is expected to need six-to-eight weeks to recover before resuming offseason training. The injury originally occurred in July.
A pair of injured Cardinals will avoid surgery for now. Catcher Yadier Molina and pitcher Adam Wainwright will try to heal their ailments with offseason reSt. Molina suffered an oblique injury during the playoffs, while Wainwright dealt with elbow stiffness at times throughout the season.
