Giants Roll Pirates

(Pittsburgh, PA) -- The Giants punched their ticket to the National League Division Series after rolling the Pirates 8-0 in the Wild Card contest. Madison Bumgarner tossed a complete-game, four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts for the win. Brandon Crawford's grand slam off Edinson Volquez in the fourth inning was all the offense the Giants would need. Brandon Belt added in two hits and three RBI. The series against Washington begins tomorrow.

Giants utility man Michael Morse could be ready to go for the division series against the Nationals. Morse missed the Wild Card win over the Pirates as he recovers from an oblique injury. The 32-year-old has not played since August 31 but took full swings Tuesday with the team.

Cardinals Open NLDS With Dodgers Friday

(Los Angeles, CA) -- The Cardinals have one more day to get ready for the start of the playoffs. They take on the Dodgers in Game One of the National League Division Series Friday in Los Angeles. Adam Wainwright opposes Clayton Kershaw in a battle of aces. First pitch at Chavez Ravine is at 5:37 p.m.

The Cardinals will play the first two games of their Division Series in Los Angeles. Game Two is Saturday at 8:37 p.m. before the series shifts to St. Louis. The Cards host Game Three Monday and Game Four, if necessary, on Tuesday. Start times for those games have not been set.

Dunn Hangs Them Up

(Oakland, CA) -- Adam Dunn is calling it a career for baseball. Dunn announced on Twitter his decision to retire after hinting at it throughout the 2014 season. The 14-year veteran did not get an at-bat in the Athletics Wild Card loss to the Royals Tuesday, his first trip to the post-season.
