St. Anthony, Teutopolis Headed to State

Teutopolis Junior High School is headed to the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament this weekend.

St. Anthony and Teutopolis each won a sectional championship game Saturday and are headed to the state baseball tournament.

St. Anthony won the 1A Sectional played at St. Anthony, 10-6 over Nokomis. The Bullpups led 2-1 after the first inning then had to hold off a fifth inning rally by Nokomis.

Strullmyer had a single and triple for the Bullpups while Koester and Wall had a single, doubel and an RBI each and Guy two doubles and two RBI.

St. Anthony, now 14-4, will take on Springfield Christian (14-3) on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Eastside Centre in East Peoria.

Meanwhile, Teutopolis won the 2A Sectional played at Teutopolis, 3-1 over Paris Crestwood. Clint Weber picked up the pitching win on a two-hitter with two walks and a strikeout.

Luke Ungrund, Tyler Runde, Weber and Mitch Apke had a single each. Ungrund and Runde drove in a run each.

Teutopolis, now 16-5, will take on Glasford Illini Bluffs (9-4) on Friday at 2:30 p.m., also at Eastside Centre.

Meanwhile, the third area team in a sectional Saturday, Jasper County, lost its 3A Sectional to Rochester, 7-5, in a contest played in Mt. Zion.
