Cardinals Top Brewers In 13 Innings
(St. Louis, MO) -- Tony Cruz delivered the game-winning single in the bottom of the 13th to give the Cardinals a 3-2 win over the Brewers at Busch Stadium. Jon Jay and Matt Adams both added an RBI as the Cards banged out 12 hits in the victory. Shelby Miller struck out four and allowed one earned run in six frames for the no-decision. Sam Freeman logged the win in relief. St. Louis remains 2 1/2 games up on the Pirates in the NL Central. Aramis Ramirez and Scooter Gennett drove in the lone runs in the loss. Kyle Lohse pitched seven-and-a-third innings and allowed one run before Jimmy Nelson lost his eighth game of the season. The Crew sit 3 1/2 games out of a Wild Card spot.
The Cardinals begin their final regular season home series tonight with the first of three games against the Reds at Busch Stadium. John Lackey puts his 13-9 mark up against Cincinnati's David Holmberg, who is 1-1. The Cards play at Chicago and Arizona next week.
Dodgers Storm Past Cubs
(Chicago, IL) -- The Dodgers scored seven runs in the final three innings to top the Cubs 8-4 at Wrigley Field. Eight different Dodgers drove in a run as Yasiel Puig led the way with three hits. Hanley Ramirez and Juan Uribe collected two hits each and starter Zack Greinke allowed four runs in five innings for the no-decision. Paco Rodriguez grabbed the win in relief as LA leads the NL West by 2 1/2 games. Jorge Soler drove in two runs for the Cubs while Mike Olt added an RBI. Neil Ramirez took the loss out of the pen after allowing five runs, four of them unearned. The Cubs saw a three-game winning streak end.
The Cubs are now affiliated with the South Bend Silver Hawks of the Midwest League. Chicago was previously with the Kane County Cougars but met with the Silver Hawks in South Bend on Wednesday and announced the new PDC on Thursday. The deal with the Class-A team runs through 2018. The Cubs also joined with the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League in the Class-A Short Season.
White Sox At Tampa Bay
(St. Petersburg, FL) -- The White Sox are on the road facing the Rays tonight in St. Pete. The Sox will go with Jose Quintana while the Rays send Jeremy Hellickson to the hill. Chicago has lost three of four to slip to 69-83.
Nationals Sink Marlins
(Miami, FL) -- A five-run fourth inning pushed the Nationals to a 6-2 win over the Marlins in the first of four from Marlins Park. Bryce Harder had three hits, while Anthony Rendon was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Gio Gonzalez earned his ninth victory, dealing seven innings of two-run ball with five strikeouts. Washington is 88-and-64, winning nine of its last 12. Reed Johnson and Jeff Baker drove in a run each in the defeat. Brad Hand gave up five earned runs in five innings to take the loss. The Marlins have three wins in their last nine games.
Rockies Edge Past Diamondbacks
(Denver, CO) -- Wilin Rosario smashed a two-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Rockies to a 7-6 win over the Diamondbacks at Coors Field. The Rockies scored six unanswered runs after Arizona took a 6-1 lead in the sixth inning. Rosario ended 4-for-5 with three RBI while Michael Cuddyer hit a solo homer and finished with three runs for Colorado, which has won three straight. LaTroy Hawkins picked up the win. Ender Inciarte and Jordan Pacheco each drove in two runs for Arizona, which has lost three in-a-row. Addison Reed suffered the loss.
Padres Drop Phillies
(San Diego, CA) -- Will Venable blasted a three-run homer to help guide the Padres to a 7-3 win over the Phillies at Petco Park. Alexi Amarista belted a solo shot and totaled two RBI. Seth Smith batted in a run for San Diego, which has won three of four. Robbie Erlin threw six innings of one-run ball to pick up his fourth win. Kyle Kendrick got tagged for three runs in five frames to fall to 9-13 on the season. Ben Revere went 3-for-5 with an RBI for Philadelphia, which has dropped four of its last five.
Yankees Walk Off Blue Jays
(Bronx, NY) -- Antoan Richardson scored on an error to give the Yankees a 3-2 walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth against the Blue Jays in the Bronx. Closer David Robertson picked up the win as New York holds onto its slim postseason hopes. The Yanks are five games behind the Athletics for the second Wild Card spot in the AL. Derek Jeter hit his fourth homer of the season. Toronto tied the game in the eighth inning on a two-run bomb from Jose Bautista, his 33rd. Reliever Aaron Sanchez took the loss for the Blue Jays, who are 77-75.
Indians Beat Astros In 13
(Houston, TX) -- Mike Aviles hit a sac-fly to score the winning run in the top of the 13th inning as the Indians dropped the Astros 2-1 in Houston. Carlos Santana singled in the tying run in the ninth for Cleveland, which won the final three games of the series. The Indians are four games back of the second Wild Card spot in the American League. Danny Salazar allowed a run in 7 1/3 innings for the no-decision while Kyle Crockett picked up the win. Cody Allen notched his 22nd save. Jake Marisnick knocked in the only run for Houston. Scott Feldman allowed a run in eight-plus innings, and Samuel Deduno suffered the loss.
Mariners Down Angels
(Anaheim, CA) -- Logan Morrison hit a three-run homer in the top of the ninth to lift the Mariners to a 3-1 win over the Angels at Angel Stadium. Felix Hernandez struck out 11 and gave up three hits in seven innings while Tom Wilhelmsen picked up the win. Fernando Rodney locked up save number 46 for Seattle, which is a game back of a Wild Card spot. Hank Conger hit a solo homer in the ninth for Los Angeles, which has lost three of five. Kevin Jepsen took the loss.
Pirates Top Red Sox
(Pittsburgh, PA) -- Starling Marte was 2-for-4 with a homer as the Pirates topped the Red Sox 3-2 from PNC Park. Ike Davis also knocked in a run while Josh Harrison was 2-for-4 for Pittsburgh, which is two-and-a-half games back of St. Louis for first place in the NL Central. Gerrit Cole allowed two runs and struck out seven in seven-plus innings for his 10th win. Mark Melancon picked up his 30th save. Christian Vazquez scored twice for Boston, which could not avoid the three-game sweep. Brandon Workman allowed three runs in five innings for the loss.
