The losing streak saw Milwaukee fall out of first place in the NL Central, and the team now sits three games behind St. Louis for the top spot.

Jhonny Peralta hit a solo home run and Oscar Taveras drove in one for the Cardinals, who had won six straight. John Lackey, now 2-2 with the Redbirds, allowed six runs on nine hits with a walk and six strikeouts over six innings of work.

Ron Washington is stepping down as manager of the Texas Rangers. General Manager Jon Daniels says Washington gave him permission to say the decision doesn't have to do with drugs, but declined to go any further.

Washington admitted in 2010 to testing positive for cocaine during the 2009 season, but the Rangers did not accept his resignation at the time. The 62-year-old has been manager of the Rangers the last eight seasons and led the team to back-to-back World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011. Bench coach Tim Bogar takes over as interim manager.
