Effingham claimed a B doubleheader over St. Anthony in junior high baseball Wednesday evening.

The Mustangs edged St. Anthony 3-2 in the opener. The score was tied at 2-2 after three innings. Effingham scored the winning run in the fourth.

Matteson had a single and an RBI while Whitten had a double for the winners. St. Anthony had four hits, all singles by four different players.

In the second contest, Effingham stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and went on for a 6-1 victory.

Wolfe pitched a two-hitters. Whitten had a double and two RBI while Matteson had two singles and two RBI. St. Anthony's Flaig and Fitzgerald had a single each.

At Newton

North Clay (Louisville) handed Jasper County/Geff-Fairfield a 16-3 loss to improve to 5-1 on the season.

North Clay held a 3-1 lead after four innings then had a five-run fifth and an eight-run sixth.

Burkett had three singles and two RBI for the winners while Repking, Clifton and Fleener had two singles each. Clifton and Repking drove in two runs each.

Jasper County had three hits, all singles by three different players.

Altamont claimed a 6-2 win over Brownstown/St. Elmo. Altamont edged out to a 2-1 first inning lead. BSE tied in the third. Altamont moved ahead with a run in the top of the fourth and wasn't headed again.

Kuhlman had two singles and two RBI, Reardon a single, double and an RBI and Baucum two singles. Altamont improves to 5-5 on the season.
