Cubs Rock Cardinals

(St. Louis, MO) -- Jorge Soler launched two home runs in just his third Major League game as the Cubs beat the Cardinals 7-2 at Busch Stadium. Soler went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs while Javier Baez added two RBI. Luis Valbuena and Arismendy Alcantara each hit a solo shot for the Cubs to end a short two game skid. Neil Ramirez earned the win in relief. Pat Neshek was charged with four runs in two-thirds of an inning for his first loss of the season as the Cardinals dropped their third straight. Jhonny Peralta and Matt Holliday each drove in a run in the loss.

Verlander Pitches Tigers Past Pale Hose

(Chicago, IL) -- Justin Verlander struck out eight over seven innings of one-run ball as the Tigers downed the White Sox 7-1 at U.S. Cellular Field. Verlander improved to 12-and-11 while Torii Hunter and Ian Kinsler each drove in two runs. J.D. Martinez was 3-for-5 with a run as Detroit won its fifth in six games. Scott Carroll fell to 5-and-9 after going five-plus innings and allowing seven runs, three earned. Adam Eaton and Jose Abreu each had three hits while Adam Dunn knocked in a run. Chicago has dropped nine of its last ten games.
