NEWTON -- Effingham Junior High School broke a 1-1 first inning tie and went on to claim an 8-4 victory over Jasper County in baseball action Friday.

Braunecker picked up the pitching win on a five-hitter with three strikeouts. Ballman had a single and triple for the Mustangs. Wolfe had two singles. Kalber had a single and drove in two runs.

Jasper County was led by Bierman with a single, double and an RBI and Finn with two singles. Jasper County suffered its first loss and drops to 4-1.

Effingham improved to 4-0 on the season and travels to Salem today and hosts Flora Tuesday.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis traveled to Neoga Friday for a 25-2 win over host Neoga then fell to Edwardsville Lincoln 11-2 Saturday at T-town.

T-town stepped out to a 7-0 lead on Neoga Friday and banged out 15 hits in the contest. Josh Hardiek and Kendall Tabbert combined pitching. Hardiek went 1 1/3 innings giving up two runs, one hit and striking out two. Tabbert pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing no runs on no hits with three strikeouts.

Hardiek drove the first pitch of the game over the left field fence and finished with two RBI. Kennedey Wendt had a grand slam in the second. Mitch Hemmen had a single, and a three-run home run in the second. He finished with four RBI and Trenton Schwerdt had two singles and three RBI.

In a game Saturday, T-town fell to Edwardsville Lincoln 11-2. T-town held a 2-0 lead until the third when Lincoln tied the score then pushed ahead with four runs in the fourth.

T-town's runs came when Mitch Hemmen reached on a leadoff walk and scored from third on a Tyson Zerrusen squeeze bunt. Lucas Drees scored on a wild pitch. T-town is now 3-3 and hosts Okaw Valley today.

Okaw Valley edged Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor 5-4. Stew-Stras/Windsor took a 2-0 first inning lead and led 4-0 in the top of the fourth.

Okaw Valley came back within a run in the bottom of the fourth then knotted the score in the sixth and won in the seventh. Stew-Stras/Windsor drops to 1-4.

Stew-Stras/Windsor had four hits by four different players. The squad travels to Dieterich today.
