Cubs Get By Rockies

(Chicago, IL) -- Tsuyoshi Wada tossed seven innings of one-run ball to lead the Cubs in a 4-1 victory over the Rockies at Wrigley Field. Wada picked up his first career victory while Hector Rondon notched his 13th save and Anthony Rizzo drove in two. Emilio Bonifacio was 2-for-4 and scored twice as Chicago won for just the second time in six games. Yohan Flande struck out eight while allowing two runs in 6 2/3 innings as he fell to 0-3. Brandon Barnes doubled for one of Colorado's six hits while Nolan Arenado drove in a run. The Rox have lost two straight since a three-game win streak.

After designating him for assignment last week, the Cubs have traded second baseman Darwin Barney to the Dodgers. Chicago will receive a player to be named later in the deal. Barney won the Gold Glove Award in 2012 but was hitting just .230 with two homers in 72 games this year.


White Sox Face Tigers Tonight

(Detroit, MI) -- The White Sox open up a three-game series with the Tigers tonight at Comerica Park in Detroit. Chicago sends Jose Quintana to the mound.  He's 5-7 with a 3.15 ERA. Detroit counters with Anibal Sanchez, who is 7-4 with a 3.45 ERA. First pitch is at 6:08.


Cardinals Travel To Take On Padres

(San Diego, CA) -- After a day off, the Cardinals return to the diamond tonight for the first of a three-game series with the Padres from Petco Park. St. Louis is 56-48 this season and trots Lance Lynn to the hill. Lynn is 11-7 with a 3.05 ERA. San Diego counters with 9-10 Tyson Ross who has a 2.65 ERA this season. First pitch is at 9:10.


Marlins Rally To Dump Nationals

(Miami, FL) -- The Marlins rallied from a six-run deficit after six innings as Jeff Baker knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to lift Miami in a 7-6 win over the Nationals from Marlins Park. Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Adeiny Hechavarria each drove in a run as part of a four-run ninth. Marcell Ozuna went 2-for-4 and chipped in two RBI for Miami, which has won five in-a-row and eight of nine overall. Mike Dunn improved to 8-and-5 in relief. Rafael Soriano was tagged for all four ninth-inning runs in his first loss of the season. Starter Jordan Zimmermann struck out six in seven frames of two-run ball for the no-decision. Danny Espinosa singled in two runs and Bryce Harper added a pair of hits and an RBI in defeat.


Colon Deals Mets Past Phillies

(Flushing, NY) -- Bartolo Colon allowed a run over seven-and-two-thirds innings to lead the Mets in a 7-1 win over the Phillies from Citi Field. Colon improved to 10-8 while Travis d'Arnaud went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and two runs. Juan Lagares was 2-for-4 with two RBI for New York, which has won five of its last seven. A.J. Burnett was rocked for seven runs in five innings and fell to 6-and-10 for Philadelphia. Carlos Ruiz was 4-for-4 with an RBI while Marlon Byrd went 4-for-5 in defeat. The Phils had won three of four.


Diamondbacks Down Reds In 15

(Cincinnati, OH) -- Nick Ahmed singled in the game-winning run with two outs in the top of the 15th inning as the Diamondbacks downed the Reds 2-1 in the opener of a three-game series at Great American Ball Park. Miguel Montero plated the other run in the fourth for Arizona, which improved to 13-0 all-time in games that go at least 15 innings. Oliver Perez picked up his first win of the year and Addison Reed posted his 25th save. D'backs pitching combined for 18 strikeouts including eight from starter Chase Anderson, who tossed seven innings of one-run ball. Devin Mesoraco homered for the Reds, who are just 1-9 to open the second half. J.J. Hoover fell to 1-8 with the loss.


Pirates Blank Giants

(San Francisco, CA) -- Vance Worley threw a four-hit, complete-game shutout to lead the Pirates to a 5-0 win over the Giants at AT&T Park. Worley improved to 4-1 with the win for Pittsburgh, which has won four of six and seven of 10 since the All-Star break. Josh Harrison went 2-for-3 with a solo shot and scored twice. Neil Walker and Russell Martin each singled in a run in the win. Madison Bumgarner got hammered for five runs in just four frames of work as he took his eighth loss of the season. Pablo Sandoval tallied two of the team's four hits as the Giants lost their fifth straight game.


Rangers Double Up Yankees

(Arlington, TX) -- The Rangers' four-run fifth inning was all they needed for a 4-2 win over the Yankees to open a three-game series at Globe Life Park.  J.P. Arencibia came through with what turned into a game-winning two-run single. Elvis Andrus and Adrian Beltre each drove in a run for Texas, which had lost five of its previous six. Yu Darvish improved 10-and-6 striking out eight over seven innings. The only two runs Darvish allowed came off of two solo home runs from Brett Gardner, who finished with three hits in his first career multi-homer game. Derek Jeter passed Carl Yastrzemski for seventh on the all-time hit list with his three-hit game. David Phelps allowed all four runs in the deciding inning as he fell to 5-5. New York has lost three straight.


Astros Beat Athletics With Four Long Balls

(Houston, TX) -- Chris Carter clubbed a three-run homer as the Astros used four long balls to beat the Athletics 7-3 in the opener of a three-game series at Minute Maid Park. Jason Castro, Marc Krauss and Matt Dominguez all went deep during a four-run sixth inning for the Astros, who snapped a five-game losing streak. Brett Oberholtzer tossed 6 2/3 innings of three-run ball as he improved to 3-and-7 with his first win since May 30. Stephen Vogt homered for Oakland, which had won four of five. Jesse Chavez allowed six runs in 5 1/3 frames as he fell to 8-7.


Rays Edge Brewers

(St. Petersburg, FL) -- James Loney's two-run single in the sixth inning lifted the Rays to a 2-1 win over the Brewers in the first of three at Tropicana Field. Jake Odorizzi tossed seven innings of one-run, three-hit ball for the win as he improved to 7-8. Jake McGee pitched a perfect ninth for his 12th save. The Rays have won 10 of their last 11. Mark Reynolds homered in the third for Milwaukee, which has lost three of four. Kyle Lohse permitted the two runs in six frames as he dipped to 11-5 with the loss.
