Dodgers Dump Cardinals

(St. Louis, MO) -- Adrian Gonzalez singled in the winning run in the top of the ninth to lift the Dodgers to a 4-3 win over the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.  Juan Uribe, Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier all singled in runs for Los Angeles, which avoided the three-game sweep. Shortstop Hanley Ramirez left the game in the ninth after getting hit by a pitch for the second time in the contest. J.P. Howell got the win in relief of Clayton Kershaw, who allowed three runs in seven innings. Kenley Jansen picked up save number 28. Trevor Rosenthal took the loss. Peter Bourjos tied the game at three with a two-run homer in the sixth.

Righty Michael Wacha will undergo a follow-up MRI on his shoulder today. Wacha hopes to begin a throwing program after seeing the results of the teSt. This is the third MRI for Wacha over the course of a month.


Diamondbacks Edge Cubs, Sweep Series

(Phoenix, AZ) -- Josh Collmenter tossed seven innings of one-run ball as the Diamondbacks clipped the Cubs 3-2 at Chase Field to complete a three-game sweep. Collmenter improved to 8-and-5 while David Peralta went 2-for-4 with two RBI as Arizona won its fourth in five games. Addison Reed notched his 23rd save in the win. Jake Arrieta allowed three runs over six-and-two-thirds innings but fell to 5-2 for Chicago. Anthony Rizzo hit his 23rd homer and Arismendy Alcantara doubled in a run as the Cubs lost their fifth straight.

The Cubs have optioned left-handed pitcher Zac Rosscup to Triple-A Iowa. Rosscup has allowed five runs in six innings for Chicago this season. The move was made to clear room for Kyle Hendricks, who will join the MLB rotation Tuesday.


Astros Beat White Sox

(Chicago, IL) -- Matt Dominguez and Jose Altuve each hit a two-run homer as the Astros dropped the White Sox 11-7 from U.S. Cellular Field. Dominguez knocked in four runs for Houston, which avoided the three-game sweep. Marwin Gonzalez added three hits and two runs batted in for the 'Stros. Tony Sipp picked up the win. Jose Abreu had two hits, a run and an RBI for Chicago. Daniel Webb took the loss.


Marlins Edge Giants, Avoid Sweep

(Miami, FL) -- Adeiny Hechavarria scored on a wild pitch in the seventh as the Marlins clipped the Giants 3-2 in Miami to avoid a three-game weekend sweep.  Casey McGehee went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer as Miami snapped a six-game losing streak. Brad Hand pitched seven innings of two-run ball for his first victory while Steve Cishek locked up his 21st save. Tim Lincecum fell to 9-6 after allowing three runs in seven innings for San Francisco. Buster Posey went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI as the Giants saw a three-game win streak end.


Braves Blast Phillies

(Atlanta, GA) -- Tommy La Stella knocked in three runs to guide the Braves to an 8-2 win over the Phillies at Turner Field. Chris Johnson hit a two-run homer while Justin Upton scored twice for Atlanta, which has won four of five. Alex Wood struck out eight and allowed one run in six innings for the win.  Marlon Byrd and John Mayberry Jr. each knocked in a run for Philadelphia, which has lost four of five. Kyle Kendrick gave up six runs in five frames for the loss.


Pirates Top Rockies

(Pittsburgh, PA) -- Neil Walker went deep and collected three hits as the Pirates beat the Rockies 5-3 at PNC Park. Jordy Mercer drove in two runs in the win with Andrew McCutchen grabbing an RBI. Jeff Locke gave up three runs through six frames for the no-decision with Jeanmar Gomez grabbing the win and Mark Melancon earning the save. Josh Rutledge went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and Michael McKenry added a solo shot. Matt Belisle fell to 2-6.


Werth Gives Nationals Win Over Brewers

(Washington, DC) -- Jayson Werth hit a walk-off RBI double to give the Nationals a 5-4 win over the Brewers at Nationals Park. Ryan Zimmerman hit a two-run bomb in the win, and Ian Desmond plated a run. Rafael Soriano blew the save but got the win to improve to 2-0, and Gio Gonzalez took a no-decision after walking three and giving up three runs in three-and-a-third innings. The Nationals have won four of five. Carlos Gomez and Khris Davis drove in a run each for Milwaukee, which has lost nine of 11. Rob Wooten took the loss for the Brewers.


Padres Walk-Off On Mets

(San Diego, CA) -- Seth Smith hit a walk-off infield single to give the Padres a 2-1 win over the Mets at Petco Park. Smith collected three hits in the win and Yasmani Grandal hit a solo shot. Odrisamer Despaigne took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and grabbed a no-decision with Joaquin Benoit notching the win in relief. The Padres have won two straight.  David Wright plated a run in the loss and Daniel Murphy broke up the no-hitter with a double. Victor Black took the loss in relief as the Mets dropped their second consecutive game.


Blue Jays Get Past Rangers

(Toronto, Ontario) -- Melky Cabrera and Dioner Navarro each went deep as the Blue Jays outslugged the Rangers 9-6 at Rogers Centre. Cabrera finished 3-for-5 with three RBI while Jose Reyes had two hits and knocked in two. Mark Buehrle allowed five runs in six innings while Todd Redmond got the win, and Aaron Loup notched his fourth save. Toronto has won two straight since a three-game slide. Nick Tepesch allowed five runs in 4 1/3 frames for Texas, but Neftali Feliz took the loss in relief. Dan Robertson knocked in four, and Leonys Martin was 3-for-4 with two runs as the Rangers lost their tenth in 11 games.


Tigers Take Down Tribe, Avoid Super Sweep

(Detroit, MI) -- Torii Hunter hit a two-run homer as the Tigers grabbed a 5-1 win over the Indians and avoided a four-game sweep at Comerica Park. Nick Castellanos went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Drew Smyly improved to 6-8 with seven innings of one-run ball. Detroit ended a four-game losing streak. Josh Tomlin was tagged for four runs in 4 1/3 innings, falling to 5-7 for Cleveland. Yan Gomes was 2-for-3 with a solo homer for the Indians, who had won six of seven.


Red Sox Blank Royals, Complete Weekend Sweep

(Boston, MA) -- Jon Lester tossed eight shutout innings to help the Red Sox blank the Royals 6-0 at Fenway Park, completing a three-game sweep. Lester struck out eight and gave up four hits while improving to 10-7. David Ross hit a two-run homer while Daniel Nava went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Boston has won seven of eight overall. Yordano Ventura was tagged for six runs over 4 1/3 innings, falling to 7-8 for Kansas City. Alcides Escobar had two hits including a double as the Royals lost their sixth in seven games.


Rays Get Past Twins

(Minneapolis, MN) -- James Loney went 2-for-4 with two RBI as the Rays got past the Twins 5-3 at Target Field to complete a three-game sweep. Chris Archer improved to 6-5 after pitching six-and-a-third innings and allowing three runs, one earned. Evan Longoria had two hits and knocked in a run while Kirby Yates notched his first save. Tampa Bay has won six out of eight. Kevin Correia allowed four runs in as many innings, falling to 5-12 for Minnesota. Josh Willingham knocked in two for the Twins, who have lost four of six.


Angels Walk Off On Mariners

(Anaheim, CA) -- Grant Green singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Angels to a 6-5 win over the Mariners in Anaheim. Albert Pujols doubled in Mike Trout to tie the game earlier in the ninth. Trout ended with three runs and a solo homer for Los Angeles, which has won seven of eight. Kole Calhoun also went deep for the Halos. Joe Thatcher picked up the win a day after taking the loss. Kyle Seager hit a solo home run in the first for Seattle, which has lost three of four. Fernando Rodney blew the save and took the loss.


Athletics Pound On Orioles

(Oakland, CA) -- John Jaso and Josh Donaldson each had two hits and drove in two as the Athletics crushed the Orioles 10-2 at The Coliseum to take the rubber game of a weekend series.  Stephen Vogt was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run for Oakland, which has won 10 of 14. Sonny Gray improved to 11-3 after going 6 2/3 innings and allowing two runs, one earned. Kevin Gausman was tagged for five runs in four-plus innings, dropping to 4-and-3 for Baltimore. J.J. Hardy and Manny Machado each drove in a run and had two of the three hits for the O's, who had won four of six.


Yankees Walk Off On Reds

(Bronx, NY) -- Brian McCann knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as the Yankees dropped the Reds 3-2 from the Bronx. The winning hit was popped up into shallow right in between three fielders. Derek Jeter and Jacoby Ellsbury also drove in a run for New York, which swept the three-game series.  David Robertson picked up the win in relief. Hiroki Kuroda allowed an unearned run in 6 2/3 innings for a no-decision. Johnny Cueto also took a no-decision after five innings of two-run ball. Aroldis Chapman took the loss. Todd Frazier hit a solo homer for Cincinnati, which has lost four of five.
