American League Downs NL For All-Star Win
(Minneapolis, MN) -- Derek Jeter went 2-for-2 and scored a run in his final All-Star Game to lead the American League in a 5-3 win over the National League at Target Field in Minneapolis.
It was Jeter's 14th appearance in the Midsummer Classic. Mike Trout had a double and triple with two RBI and earned MVP honors. Miguel Cabrera blasted a two-run homer for the AL, which has won two straight since a three-game losing streak. Max Scherzer was credited with the win while hometown closer Glen Perkins nailed down the save.
Jonathan Lucroy had a pair of RBI doubles for the National League while Chase Utley also knocked in a run with a two-bagger. Pat Neshek took the loss for the Senior Circuit, which still leads the overall series 43-40-2.
Cardinals Open Second Half Friday Against Dodgers
(St. Louis, MO) -- The Cardinals open the second half of the season on Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Busch Stadium. The Redbirds are currently second in the NL Central at 52-44, one game behind the Brewers. St. Louis has not yet announced its rotation plans. Dan Haren will start for LA.
Cubs Face Diamondbacks Friday
(Phoenix, AZ) -- The Cubs get back to work on Friday as they start the second half of the season in Arizona. Chicago sends Edwin Jackson to the mound to start a three-game series with the Diamondbacks at Chase Field. The Cubs are 40-54 and sit last in the NL Central. The D'backs are 40-56.
Sox Start Second Half Against Astros
(Chicago, IL) -- The White Sox resume the season on Friday when they start the second half at home against the Astros. Chicago sends Jose Quintana to the mound as the Sox open a three-game series with Houston. The White Sox are 45-51 and sit fourth in the AL Central.
