Effingham Post 120 Juniors Claim DH Over Kinmundy Post 519

American Legion Effingham Junior Post 120 beat Kinmundy Post 519, South Central 6-5 in five innings in the opening game of a doubleheader Tuesday at Effingham High School behind Bryar Jansen, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Colby Utz got the win for Effingham. He allowed three runs over four innings. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered three hits. Bloemer was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in five innings, walked three and struck out three.

Post 120 jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Effingham's attack began with a single from Utz. The scoreboard lit up again for Post 120 when Cory Osborn scored on an error and Kyle Pease scored on an RBI single by Eli Buhrman. The lead stayed with Effingham Junior Post 120 after the fourth, when it scored three runs in the inning, ending on an RBI single by Jansen.

Two runs in the top of the fifth helped Kinmundy Post 519, South Central close its deficit to 6-5. A sacrifice fly by B. Harmeier and a single by D. Hill gave Post 519 life. Effingham closed the game out when James Kabbes got Bloemer to ground into a fielder's choice out to end the game.

A four-run explosion in the sixth inning hoisted Effingham Junior Post 120 to a 7-0 win in seven innings over Kinmundy Post 519 in the second game of the doubleheader.

Effingham scored in the sixth on an RBI single by Buhrman, a two-run single by Jansen, and an RBI double by Drew Gibson. Woltman went a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the fifth and sixth innings.

Lane Koenig had an impressive outing against Kinmundy's lineup. Post 519 managed just two hits off Koenig, who allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out seven during his three innings of work. T. Geiler took the loss for Kinmundy Post 519. He allowed seven runs in six innings, walked six and struck out five. Effingham never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring two runs on two RBI doubles by Woltman and Gibson.
