Effingham Junior Legion Team Splits Two Games at Greenville Tournament Friday

The Effingham American Legion Post #120 Junior Legion team split two games Friday at the Greenville College Junior Legion Tournament.

Post #120 lost to Vandalia Post #95, 5-1, but won over Urbana Post #71, 9-7.

VANDALIA 5, EFFINGHAM 1

The Vandalia squad scored twice in both the first and second innings to put Effingham in a bad spot. Vandalia made it 5-0 in fifth inning, when Effingham scored its only run of the game.

Alex Bohnhoff went five innings for Post #120, allowing five runs, four earned, on 10 hits, walking three and fanning six. Caleb Martin pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit, walking two and fanning a batter.

EFFINGHAM 9, URBANA 7

Urbana took a 1-0 lead in the first, but Effingham made it 2-1 in the third, and each team scored in the fourth to make it 3-2. Effingham scored six in the top of the sixth to pull ahead 9-2, but Urbana scored in the bottom to pull within 9-7, but that ended the scoring in the game.

Brennan Poland turned in a distance-going pitching performance, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits, walking four and striking out seven.

Post #120 was back in action today at 10am against Mattoon, and will play Urbana at 4pm, with both games at Greenville College.
