Dodgers Blank Cardinals

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Clayton Kershaw struck out 13 hitters over seven shutout innings to give the Dodgers a 6-0 win over the Cardinals at Dodger Stadium.  Kershaw improved to 9-2 for Los Angeles, which has won five out of six. Andre Ethier clubbed a three-run homer in the win while Matt Kemp and Adrian Gonzalez added an RBI each. Matt Carpenter collected three hits in the loss as the Cardinals went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Shelby Miller fell to 7-7 after giving up six runs in five innings for the Cardinals, who have lost three of four.

Cardinals righty Joe Kelly will make his second rehab start on three days' rest Tuesday. Kelly threw 41 pitches on Friday for Triple-A Memphis. Kelly will start Tuesday against Nashville and look to throw around 60 pitches. St. Louis is hoping Kelly can build up his stamina and rejoin the rotation when his rehab assignment is finished.


White Sox Down Blue Jays

(Toronto, Ontario) -- Jose Quintana held the Blue Jays to three hits over seven innings as the White Sox grabbed a 4-0 win over Toronto at Rogers Centre. Quintana improved to 5-and-7 while striking out seven. Moises Sierra went 2-for-4 with a solo homer while Tyler Flowers knocked in two. Jose Abreu also drove in a run for Chicago, which has won three straight since dropping seven out of eight. Mark Buehrle surrendered just two runs over eight innings, but fell to 10-5 for the Jays. Jose Reyes managed two of the four hits for Toronto, which has lost six of its last nine.

The White Sox are back home tonight to start a three-game series with the Angels. Chicago sends Hector Noesi and his 2-5 record to the mound. The Halos counter with Garrett Richards, who is 8-and-2 on the year. First pitch from U.S. Cellular Field is set for 7:10.

 

Cubs Face Red Sox Tonight

(Boston, MA) -- The Cubs are in Boston to take on the Red Sox tonight. Chicago had a rare Sunday off yesterday following a split of a doubleheader on Saturday against the Nationals. Jake Arrieta takes the mound sporting a 4-1 record. Boston counters with Jake Peavy. First pitch is at 6:10.


Braves Edge Phillies

(Philadelphia, PA) -- Aaron Harang gave up two runs across seven innings as the Braves held on for a 4-3 win over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, sweeping the four-game weekend series. Harang gave up 11 hits but moved to 7-6 while Craig Kimbrel survived the ninth for his 24th save. B.J. Upton had a two-run triple while Gerald Laird went 2-for-4 including an RBI double as Atlanta won its sixth in seven games. Ben Revere and Jimmy Rollins each went 3-for-5 while Marlon Byrd hit a pair of solo homers for the Phillies. David Buchanan gave up three runs across five innings to fall to 4-4 as Philadelphia lost its eighth in ten games.


Pirates Take Out Mets

(Pittsburgh, PA) -- Pedro Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI as the Pirates dropped the Mets 5-2 at PNC Park, taking three of four in the weekend series. Ike Davis finished 2-for-4 and knocked in a pair for Pittsburgh, which has won seven of its last nine. Edinson Volquez scattered eight hits over six innings, while striking out seven to improve to 6-6. Mark Melancon notched his 15th save.  Daniel Murphy went 3-for-5 and Ruben Tejada was 2-for-5 with an RBI for New York. Bartolo Colon gave up five runs in six frames and fell to 8-and-6 for the Mets, who have dropped four of five.


Rockies Drop Brewers

(Milwaukee, WI) -- Charlie Culberson belted a two-run homer to help guide the Rockies to a 10-4 win over the Brewers at Miller Park. Corey Dickerson went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Wilin Rosario and Justin Morneau each drove in a run as Colorado snapped a four-game losing streak. Jorge De La Rosa pitched six innings to improve to 8-6 on the season. Yovani Gallardo got hit for eight runs in five frames of work to fall to 5-5 for the Brewers, who saw a four-game winning streak come to an end. Ryan Braun hit a solo shot and Khris Davis drove in two runs in defeat.


Reds Shut Out Giants

(San Francisco, CA) -- Homer Bailey fanned seven and took a no-hitter into the seventh in his complete-game effort as the Reds blanked the Giants 4-0 at AT&T Park. Bailey improved to 8-4 for Cincinnati, which has won five in-a-row. Skip Schumaker and Brayan Pena went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Billy Hamilton drove in a run in the win. Tim Hudson suffered a tough loss after striking out six in eight innings of two-run ball for the Giants, who have lost four straight and six of seven. Hunter Pence and Buster Posey each went 1-for-4 in the team's three-hit effort.


Padres Edge Diamondbacks

(San Diego, CA) -- Cameron Maybin and Alexi Amarista each drove in a run in the sixth inning to lift the Padres to a 2-1 win over the Diamondbacks at Petco Park. Tommy Medica went 1-for-3 and scored a run as San Diego snapped a three-game losing streak. Odrisamer Despaigne pitched 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball to improve to 2-0 and Huston Street notched his 21st save. Mike Bolsinger struck out six and gave up two runs in six frames for the tough loss. Bolsinger drops to 1-and-4 for the D'backs, who had won two straight entering the game. Miguel Montero drove in the lone Arizona run off a first inning single.


Rays Blow Away Orioles

(Baltimore, MD) -- Matt Joyce went 5-for-6 with two homers and four RBI has the Rays blew out the Orioles 12-7 at Camden Yards, taking three of four in the weekend series. Ben Zobrist added a homer while going 3-for-6 with two RBI for Tampa Bay, which put up seven runs in the sixth. Logan Forsythe hit a two-run shot for the Rays, who have won four of their last five. Alex Cobb improved to 3-6 despite allowing four runs in five innings. Ryan Flaherty hit a three-run homer in the ninth while Manny Machado connected on a two-run bomb. Evan Meek took the loss for Baltimore, which saw its bullpen allow nine runs. The O's have dropped four of their last six.


Royals Earn Walk-Off Win Over Angels

(Kansas City, MO) -- Omar Infante ripped an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to send the Royals to a 5-4 win over the Angels at Kauffman Stadium. Infante finished 3-for-4 while Lorenzo Cain went 4-for-5 with two RBI. Danny Valencia added two knocks and an RBI for the Royals, who had lost three of four. Greg Holland notched the win in relief. Erick Aybar and Kole Calhoun each hit solo homers for Los Angeles. Jason Grilli took the loss in his debut for the Angels, who had won seven of their last eight.


Astros Top Tigers

(Houston, TX) -- L.J. Hoes and Jon Singleton each knocked in two runs to help the Astros top the Tigers 6-4 from Minute Maid Park. Jose Altuve was 3-for-5 with a run and two steals for Houston, which has won three of four. Scott Feldman allowed two runs in six-plus innings for the win. Tony Sipp picked up his first save. Alex Avila hit a solo homer for Detroit, which had won seven straight before losing two of three in this series.  Drew Smyly gave up four runs in under three frames for the loss.


Twins Slide Past Rangers

(Arlington, TX) -- Kendrys Morales delivered the eventual game-winning double and helped the Twins knock off the Rangers 3-2 at Globe Life Park. Jorge Polanco and Joe Mauer plated a run each for the Twins, who snap a five-game skid. Kyle Gibson tossed eight innings of two-run ball for his seventh win of the season and Glen Perkins struck out the side for his 20th save. Joakim Soria took the loss after surrendering a run in the ninth to fall to 1-3. Robinson Chirinos collected three hits and went deep for Texas, which snaps a two-game win streak.


Mariners Blank Indians

(Seattle, WA) -- Felix Hernandez struck out nine and gave up just one hit in eight shutout innings to lead the Mariners to a 3-0 win over the Indians at Safeco Field. Hernandez improved to 10-2 with the win, and Fernando Rodney picked up his 23rd save for Seattle, which has won seven of nine. Robinson Cano hit a two-run homer and Mike Zunino batted in a run. T.J. House surrendered two runs in six frames to suffer the tough loss for the Indians, who have lost six of their last eight. Lonnie Chisenhall tallied the lone hit for Cleveland in the loss.


Red Sox Sink Yankees

(Bronx, NY) -- Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz each drove in three runs to power the Red Sox to an 8-5 win over the Yankees in the Bronx. All of Ortiz's RBI came via his 450th career home run. John Lackey allowed five runs in as many innings for the win. Koji Uehara picked up his 18th save for Boston, which has won three of four. Mark Teixeira and Carlos Beltran hit home runs for New York, which has lost six of eight. Chase Whitley allowed five runs in four-plus innings for the loss.


Athletics Edge Marlins, Cap Weekend Sweep

(Miami, FL) -- The Athletics picked up a 4-3 victory over the Marlins to cap a three-game weekend sweep in Miami. Nate Freiman blasted a three-run homer while Tommy Milone pitched seven strong innings. Milone improved to 6-and-3 while allowing three runs, two earned. Ryan Cook earned his first save for Oakland, which has won nine of its last 11 games. Andrew Heaney fell to 0-3 after giving up four runs in six frames for Miami. Marcell Ozuna hit a solo homer to account for one of six hits for the Marlins, who have lost seven of nine overall.
