Cardinals Blank Rockies

(Denver, CO) -- Matt Adams hit two home runs and drove in six as the Cardinals dominated the Rockies 8-0 at Coors Field. Matt Holliday and Jhonny Peralta each chipped in an RBI for St. Louis, which has won three in-a-row. Lance Lynn fanned seven in eight innings of work to improve to 8-5. Jhoulys Chacin gave up five runs in six innings to fall to 1-6 for the Rockies, who have lost seven straight. Corey Dickerson went 2-for-4 in the team's three-hit performance.

The Cardinals have called up left-handed pitcher Marco Gonzalez from Double-A Springfield. The 22-year-old southpaw is 3-2 with a 2.33 ERA in seven starts for Springfield. Gonzalez is set to make his big league debut tomorrow in place of the injured Jaime Garcia against the Rockies.

With the recent injuries of pitchers Michael Wacha and Jaime Garcia, the Cardinals filled the roster spots yesterday by recalling pitcher Eric Fornataro and infielder Pete Kozma from Triple-A Memphis. Fornataro posted a 4.70 ERA in seven games with St. Louis earlier this season and Kozma has one hit in three at-bats for the Cards.

The Cardinals play game two of a three-game series with the Rockies tonight from Coors Field. St. Louis will go with 7-6 Shelby Miller on the mound and Colorado sends out 6-6 Jorge De La Rosa opposite him. The first pitch is set for 7:40.


Reds Top Cubs

(Chicago, IL) -- Devin Mesoraco hit a grand slam to break things open in the ninth as the Reds rolled the Cubs 6-1 from Wrigley Field. It's the fourth straight game with a homer for Mesoraco. Todd Frazier went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI for Cincinnati, which has won three straight to get over .500 for the first time this season. Alfredo Simon struck out five across seven innings of one-run ball for a no decision. Jonathan Broxton picked up his third win in relief. Anthony Rizzo went deep for Chicago, which has lost three in-a-row. Jeff Samardzija allowed a run and struck out seven in six frames while Hector Rondon took the loss.

The Cubs continue their three-game series with the Reds tonight at Wrigley Field. Chicago sends Jake Arrieta and his 3-1 record to the mound. Cincinnati counters with Homer Bailey, who is 7-3. First pitch from the Friendly Confines is set for 7:05.


Davis' Blast Sends Orioles Past White Sox

(Baltimore, MD) -- Chris Davis blasted a pinch-hit, walk-off three-run homer to send the Orioles to a 6-4 win over the White Sox at Camden Yards. Adam Jones went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer while Caleb Joseph finished 3-for-3 with a solo jack. Brad Brach pitched two innings in relief for the win after Wei-Yin Chen allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings in the start. Baltimore has won three straight and five of six. Chris Sale gave up 11 hits but allowed just two runs over six innings before Ronald Belisario blew the save and took the loss for Chicago. Jose Abreu went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and three RBI for the Sox, who have lost five straight and nine out of eleven.

The White Sox and Orioles continue a three-game series tonight in Baltimore. Chicago sends Jose Quintana and his 3-7 record to the bump. Baltimore counters with Miguel Gonzalez, who is 4-4 on the season. First pitch from Camden Yards is set for 6:05.


Marlins Blank Phillies

(Philadelphia, PA) -- Nathan Eovaldi tossed six-and-a-third innings of shutout ball to guide the Marlins to a 4-0 win against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Eovaldi improved to 5-3 for Miami, which snapped a two-game slide. Casey McGehee knocked in two runs for the Fish. Cody Asche went 3-for-3 for Philadelphia, which has lost three straight. Roberto Hernandez gave up two runs in six innings for the loss.


Nationals Blank Brewers

(Milwaukee, WI) -- Gio Gonzalez tossed six shutout innings as the Nationals blanked the Brewers 3-0 at Miller Park. Gonzalez improved to 4-and-4 while allowing three hits and four walks. Tyler Clippard pitched the ninth for his first save while Adam LaRoche hit a three-run homer to provide all the runs. Jayson Werth finished 3-for-4 and scored for Washington, which has won three straight. Matt Garza gave up three runs across seven frames and fell to 4-5 for Milwaukee. Jonathan Lucroy reached base twice and Ryan Braun managed a double but the Brewers saw a four-game win streak end.


Blue Jays Top Yankees

(Toronto, Ontario) -- Adam Lind hit a three-run homer and knocked in four as the Blue Jays beat the Yankees 8-3 from Toronto. Dioner Navarro went 2-for-4 with two RBI while Melky Cabrera knocked in one and scored twice for Toronto, which snapped a two-game slide. Marcus Stroman struck out seven and allowed a solo homer to Mark Teixeira over eight innings for the win. Chase Whitley gave up all the runs in under four innings for his first loss.  New York has lost three straight.


Mariners Pound Red Sox

(Seattle, WA) -- Logan Morrison went 4-for-4 with a walk, two homers and four RBI as the Mariners crushed the Red Sox 12-3 at Safeco Field. Kyle Seager finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs while Endy Chavez went 2-for-4 and drove in three. Felix Hernandez pitched seven innings of two-run ball to improve to 9-2 as Seattle won its fourth straight and seventh in nine games. John Lackey was tagged for seven runs over three-and-two-thirds innings, falling to 8-5 for Boston. Mike Napoli went 2-for-3 with a solo homer for the Sox, who have lost four of five.


Pirates Blast Rays

(St. Petersburg, FL) -- Pedro Alvarez hit a three-run homer in the third inning to help lead the Pirates to an 8-1 beating of the Rays at Tropicana Field.  Andrew McCutchen notched two RBI and Ike Davis and Russell Martin each batted in a run for Pittsburgh, which has won three straight. Edinson Volquez pitched eight innings of one-run ball for the win. Alex Cobb got rocked for six runs in just five frames of work to fall to 2-6 for Tampa Bay. James Loney drove in the lone run as the Rays fell to an MLB-worst 31-47.


Royals Down Dodgers

(Kansas City, MO) -- Jeremy Guthrie outdueled former Royal Zack Greinke as Kansas City defeated the Dodgers 5-3 in the opener of a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Guthrie allowed two runs over seven-and-two-thirds innings as he improved to 5-6. Greg Holland gave up a solo homer to Adrian Gonzalez in the ninth but held on for his 22nd save. Salvador Perez homered and scored twice, while Jarrod Dyson went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored for the Royals, who snapped a four-game losing streak. Greinke permitted a season-high five runs in five-and-two-thirds frames as he dipped to 9-4. Hanley Ramirez hit a two-run double in the eighth for LA, which had won five of six coming in.
