Effingham Post 120 Beats Dieterich, Shelby Co., Altamont Garner a Win Each

DIETERICH -- American Legion Effingham Post 120 shut the door early on Dieterich Post 628, capturing a 13-0 victory Wednesday.

Nine runs in the first three innings allowed Post 120 to put the game away early. An error, RBI singles by Zach Bateman, Blake White, Michael Woltman, Lane Koenig, and Caleb Martin in the second inning fueled Effingham’s offense early.

Bateman racked up two RBIs on three hits. Drew Gibson shut down Dieterich Post 628 while he was on the hill. Gibson gave up just two hits, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out six during his four innings of work. Paul Thoele took the loss for Dieterich Post 628. He allowed 13 runs in 3 2/3 innings, walked two and struck out two.

Effingham Post 120 increased its lead with three runs in the third. An error scored Bateman to start the scoring in the inning. Effingham Post 120 added four more runs in the top of the fourth. The inning got off to a hot start when Gibson doubled, scoring Cory Osborn. That was followed up by Bateman’s double, bringing home Gibson.

Post 120’s next games include a home game Thursday at 6 p.m. against Newton then Saturday at 9 a.m. vs. Teutopolis and finally Sunday at Newton for a 3:30 p.m. contest. All three of these dates will be one nine-inning game. The conference result will be determined by the first seven innings of each contest.

At Altamont

Altamont Post 512 and Robinson Post 69 split victories. Klaiton Wolff pitched a no-hitter in the opener as Altamont was a 5-0 winner.

Wolff went seven innings allowing only one baserunner on a walk in the fifth inning. He struck out 14. Wolff also had two singles as did Devon Guerrettaz. Wolff added an RBI.

In the second contest, Robison was a 6-2 winner. Nick Miller had a triple as Altamont had only three hits.

At Vandalia

Shelby County Legion Posts 289-611-725 and Vandalia Legion Post 95 split victories Wednesday.

Shelby County won the opener 5-2, scoring three runs in the second inning. Vandalia didn't get unwound until the bottom of the seventh, scoring both its runs.

Shelby County had seven hits in the contest led by Christian Vonderheide with two singles and two RBI. Vonderheide also picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with two walks and nine strikeouts.

In the second contest, Vandalia Legion Post 95 came back to jump on Shelby County early with a 4-0 first inning lead. Shelby County tallied two in the third but Vandalia retaliated with two in the fourth and went on for an 11-4 victory.

Bill Mueller led the winners with a single, double, triple and three RBI. Jacob Kramer led Shelby County with two singles and an RBI while Ben Helton added a double.
