Effingham Splits, Shelby County Loses Twice at Greenville Tournament

Effingham Post #120 split and Shelby County Posts #289-611-725 lost twice in action Friday at the Greenville Senior Legion Tournament.
Post #120 won their opener, 11-3, over Collinsville, then lost their second game, 3-2 to Highland.
No details are available on the first game, but the squad collected two runs on four hits in the nightcap. Carter Hayes and Swayde Sanders did the damage for Post #120. Hayes doubled in the fourth and Sanders followed with a two-run home run. Hayes and Sanders also each had a single to account for the team's four hits.
Clayton Ruckman took the loss, allowing the three runs on five hits and working around one error.

Bluford defeated Shelby County 10-4 in their first game at the tournament, and Vandalia won the other contest, 9-1.
In the loss to Bluford, Shelby County got doubles from Luke McConnell and Tyler Hendryx along with singles from Gunner Thies, Tyler Romack and Trevor Moore. Zach Monroe, Thies and Hayden Cole drove in runs for Shelby County.
Luke McConnell took the loss for Shelby County, allowing four runs, one earned, on two hits and four walks while walking four and striking out two in 2/3 of an inning. Trevor Moore pitched the other 5-1/3 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and six walks while fanning two.
In the loss to Vandalia, Ben Helton took the loss, allowing five runs on three hits and three walks in 1/3 inning. Tyler Hendryx pitched four innings, giving up four runs on three hits and six walks while fanning two. Blake Probst got the other out via a strikeout.
At the plate for Shelby County, Hendryx doubled and singled and drove in the lone run, Hayden Cole doubled, and Tyler Romack, Gunner Thies, Trevor Moore and Mark Jones each singled.

The championship game of the tournament will be played at 2pm Sunday at the Greenville College field.
