Cardinals Blank Blue Jays Again

(Toronto, Ontario) -- Jaime Garcia allowed three hits over seven scoreless innings as the Cardinals defeated the Blue Jays 5-0 from Ontario for the second straight game. Garcia improved to 2-0, while Matt Carpenter and Jhonny Peralta each went deep for St. Louis, which took two of three in the series. The Jays were held to four hits. Drew Hutchison allowed five runs in three innings for the setback. Toronto had won six straight prior to Saturday's loss.


Marlins Clip Cubs Late

(Chicago, IL) -- Giancarlo Stanton scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the eighth inning to help lift the Marlins to a 4-3 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Garrett Jones and Jacob Realmuto each notched an RBI for Miami, which snapped a two-game losing streak. Mike Dunn improved to 5-3 in relief, and Steve Cishek picked up the save. Jake Arrieta struck out seven batters in six shutout innings for the tough no-decision. Pedro Strop fell to 0-3 for Chicago, which snapped a five-game winning streak. Nate Schierholtz batted in two runs.


Angels Double Up White Sox

(Anaheim, CA) -- C.J. Wilson struck out six over seven-and-one-third innings of one-run ball to lead the Angels to a 4-2 win over the White Sox from Anaheim. He improved to 7-5 for Los Angeles, which swept the three-game series. Ernesto Frieri picked up his 10th save. Josh Hamilton knocked in three runs for the Halos. Adam Eaton and Conor Gillaspie each had an RBI for Chicago. Jose Quintana allowed four runs in under five frames for the loss.


Reds Top Phillies

(Cincinnati, OH) -- Billy Hamilton hit a two-run homer during a four-run fifth as the Reds topped the Phillies 4-1 from Great American Ball Park. Homer Bailey also knocked in two runs for Cincinnati, which has won six of its last nine games. Bailey picked up his seventh win striking out seven in eight innings of one-run ball.  Aroldis Chapman locked up his ninth save. Chase Utley drove in the only run for Philadelphia, which has lost eight of nine. David Buchanan gave up all the runs in six innings for the loss.


Brewers Beat Pirates

(Pittsburgh, PA) -- Yovani Gallardo struck out eight over seven innings to guide the Brewers to a 1-0 win against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. Gallardo improved to 4-4 while Francisco Rodriguez locked up his 19th save. Aramis Ramirez knocked in the only run for Milwaukee, which has won three of four. Jeff Locke allowed the run over seven innings for the loss. Andrew McCutchen had two of the five hits for Pittsburgh, which has lost three of its last four.


Giants Clip Mets

(San Francisco, CA) -- Tim Lincecum struck out six batters in six innings to help guide the Giants to a 6-4 win over the Mets at AT&T Park. Lincecum improved to 5-4 with the win and Sergio Romo notched his league-leading 20th save. Gregor Blanco had three RBI and Brandon Crawford and Brandon Hicks each batted in a run for San Fran, which won it's fifth straight. Zach Wheeler surrendered four runs in less than four frames to fall to 2-6 for the Mets, who have lost six in-a-row. Curtis Granderson carried the load for New York with two homers in three RBI.


Diamondbacks Power Past Braves

(Phoenix, AZ) -- The Diamondbacks used a six-run seventh inning to push past the Braves 6-5 at Chase Field. David Peralta and Paul Goldschmidt each hit a two-run homer, and Chris Owings also batted in two runs for Arizona, which has won five of six. Chase Anderson struck out eight in seven innings of two-run ball to improve to 5-0 while Brad Ziegler picked up the save. Aaron Harang surrendered three runs in six-plus innings to fall to 4-5 for the Braves, who have lost four of five. Justin Upton hit a two-run homer, and Freddie Freeman and Ramiro Pena each hit a solo homer.


Dodgers Drop Rockies In Six Innings

(Denver, CO) -- Clayton Kershaw struck out nine over five innings as the Dodgers defeated the Rockies 6-1 in six innings from Coors Field. The game was called due to the weather. Kershaw improved to 5-2 while giving up a solo homer to Troy Tulowitzki. Hanley Ramirez hit a solo homer for Los Angeles, which took two of three in the series. Jorge De La Rosa gave up five runs and struck out eight in five-and-a-third innings for the loss. Colorado has lost nine of 10 overall.


Nationals Shut Out Padres

(San Diego, CA) -- Jordan Zimmerman pitched a complete-game shutout with 12 strikeouts to lead the Nationals to a 6-0 win over the Padres at Petco Park.  Zimmerman held San Diego to two hits on his way to 5-2. Ian Desmond hit a two-run home run and Danny Espinosa also drove in two runs for Washington, which has won five of six. Eric Stults allowed six runs over two-and-one-third innings to fall to 2-7 for the Padres, who have lost five of seven. Seth Smith and Alexi Amarista had the only hits.


Athletics Rout Orioles

(Baltimore, MD) -- Brandon Moss hit a grand slam in a six-run third inning to power the Athletics to an 11-1 win over the Orioles in Baltimore. John Jaso also knocked in four runs for Oakland, which has won seven of nine. Benches cleared in the eighth inning when O's third baseman Manny Machado let his bat fly down the third baseline during his follow through. He and A's pitcher Fernando Abad were ejected. Scott Kazmir struck out seven in seven scoreless innings for his seventh win. Ubaldo Jimenez gave up six runs in under three innings for the loss. Chris Davis knocked in the only run for Baltimore, which has lost three of four.


Mariners Maul Rays

(St. Petersburg, FL) -- Felix Hernandez struck out a career-high 15 batters to help the Mariners roll the Rays 5-0 from Tropicana Field. Hernandez went seven scoreless innings for a no decision. Yoervis Medina picked up the win after the M's scored five times in the ninth. Kyle Seager and James Jones each had two RBI for Seattle, which has won seven of eight. Chris Archer tossed 6 1/3 shutout frames for a no decision. Grant Balfour took the loss.  Tampa Bay has lost 12 of its last 13 games.


Astros Pummel Twins

(Minneapolis, MN) -- Jon Singleton and Chris Carter each lifted a grand slam to power the Astros to a 14-5 win over the Twins at Target Field. Robbie Grossman scored three times, while George Springer and Dexter Fowler went deep for Houston, which has won three of four. Darin Downs picked up the win in relief. Samuel Deduno allowed five runs in three-plus innings for the loss. Eduardo Nunez hit a solo homer and knocked in two runs for Minnesota, which has lost three of four.


Royals Double Up Yankees

(Kansas City, MO) -- James Shields struck out eight batters in six innings of one-run ball to guide the Royals to a 2-1 win over the Yankees at Kauffman Stadium. Shields improved to 7-3, and Greg Holland picked up his 18th save for Kansas City, which has won three of four. Mike Moustakas and Lorenzo Cain each drove in a run in the second inning. Hiroki Kuroda surrendered two runs in seven innings of work for the Yankees, who have lost six of eight. Ichiro Suzuki drove in the lone run.


Indians Nip Rangers

(Arlington, TX) -- David Murphy was 2-for-3 with an RBI against his former team as the Indians dropped the Rangers 3-2 at Globe Life Park. Lonnie Chisenhall added two hits and a pair of runs for Cleveland, which has won eight of nine. Justin Masterson allowed two runs and struck out six over five-and-two-thirds innings for the win. Cody Allen earned his sixth save. Joe Saunders gave up three runs in five-and-a-third innings for the loss. Alex Rios was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run for Texas, which has lost four of its last six games.


Ortiz Lifts Red Sox Past Tigers

(Detroit, MI) -- David Ortiz smacked a go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning as the Red Sox rallied past the Tigers 5-3 to avoid a three-game sweep at Comerica Park. Mike Napoli went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and Dustin Pedroia plated the other run for Boston, which put an end to its five-game losing streak. John Lackey gave up three runs, two earned, in eight innings as he improved to 7-4. Koji Uehara closed it out for his 12th save. Eugenio Suarez had two hits and two RBI, while Victor Martinez also drove in a run for the Tigers, who have dropped six of eight. Joba Chamberlain fell to 1-3 with his second blown save.
