Windsor/Stew-Stras Defeats South Central for North Clay 1A Sectional Championship

In a battle of two area baseball teams, Windsor/Stew-Stras defeated South Central 5-0 Saturday to win the North Clay 1A Sectional Championship.
The Blue Devils scored single runs in the first, third and fourth innings and then tallied twice in the sixth to post the win, collecting seven hits. The Cougars were held to four hits.
Christian Vonderheide pitched a four-hit shutout to post the win, walking no one and striking out eight. Dylan Peters took the loss, allowing all five runs, three earned, on seven hits and eight walks in 5-1/3 innings of work, striking out two. Gavin Ratterman got the final two outs.
At the plate, Nic Hutchinson drove in two runs and Vonderheide and Jacob Kramer drove in a run apiece. Brandon Helmuth, Kramer and Alex Allen each doubled, while Vonderheide, Hutchinson, Dylan Ohnesorge and Derek Moshenrose each singled in the contest.
Dylan Smith, Kyle Bray, Tyler Ross and Brett Harmeier each singled for South Central, who concludes their season with a 13-16 record.
Windsor/Stew-Stras is now 28-8 on the spring and will play Monday at 4:30pm against Bluford Webber, which won the Cobden 1A Sectional. The game will be played at Southern Illinois Miners Field at Bank One Ballpark in Marion.
