The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes posted the 13th baseball sectional championship in school history Saturday with an 11-1 victory over Carmi-White County.  The game at Greenville was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.

Carmi actually took a 1-0 lead in the contest in the bottom of the first inning on back-to-back doubles by Tyler Barbre and Brodie Brown.  The Shoes' Darren Probst settled in from that point, though, and held the Bulldogs scoreless for the rest of the game.

The Shoes bounced back with a four-run second inning.  Probst worked a leadoff walk and Alex Goldstein singled.  Louis Niemerg drove in courtesy runner Jordan Bloemer with a single.  After a strikeout, Jordan Thoele reached on an error that brought in Goldstein and Niemerg.  Justin Kenter's fly ball then brought home Thoele to make it 4-1.

T-Town added a run in the third on a leadoff single by Bobby Wenthe and a missed fly ball to make it 5-1.  The Shoes made it 6-1 in the fourth on a leadoff double by Thoele, a ground ball out and another Carmi error.

The Shoes sealed the game with a five-run fifth inning.  Probst led off the inning with a single to reach base for the third time in the game, Goldstein reached on a fielder's choice that resulted in another error, Louis Niemerg walked, and Cody Will singled to bring in courtesy runner Bloemer.  Thoele singled in a run, Hardiek walked to force in a run, and then another run scored when Wenthe reached on an error.

After the run he allowed in the first, Darren Probst settled in for the Wooden Shoes, throwing 69 pitches in his five innings of work, 50 for strikes, to improve to 9-2 on the spring.

At the plate for the Shoes: Justin Kenter--single, stolen base, RBI; Reed Hardiek--walk, RBI; Bobby Wenthe--single, run scored; Darren Probst--walk, single; Jordan Bloemer--two runs scored; Alex Goldstein--single, two runs scored; Louis Niemerg--single, walk, two runs scored, RBI; Cody Will--single, run scored, RBI; Jordan Thoele--double, single, three runs scored, RBI.

Teutopolis improved to 31-6 with the victory and will play Monday at 5pm at GCS Park in Sauget against Freeburg.  Freeburg defeated Chester, 9-3, Saturday to win the Harrisburg Sectional.  We'll have the game Monday on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.
