VANDALIA -- Effingham St. Anthony High School edged Pana 3-1 to move into the championship game of the Class 2A Vandalia Baseball Regional Wednesday.

Neither team scored through five innings before the Bulldogs tallied three runs in the sixth. Eli Dasenbrock led off the frame with a single. With two outs, James Kabbes drew a walk. Bryan Jansen followed with a double and Drew Gibson singled. Neil Williams drew a walk and Pana committed an error.

Pana came back with a run in the top of the seventh but the Bulldogs held on for the win.

In the second game, Shelbyville edged Flora 5-4. The Wolves took a 3-0 first inning lead but Shelbyville slowly started chipping away, scoring single runs in the third and fifth and then coming from a 4-2 deficit in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the win.

Shadwell had two singles and McConnell had a single and three RBI while Meyer had a single and two RBI. Shelbyville improves to 17-11.

St. Anthony will now face Shelbyville at 11 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship.

Class 2A Vandalia Regional

Class 1A Oblong Regional

Dieterich edged Hutsonville/Palestine 2-1 to move into the championship game of the Class 1A Oblong Regional.

The Movin' Maroons tallied a single run in the first inning. Hutsonville/Palestine came back to knot the score in the sixth. Dieterich then scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Both teams had four hits. J. Bohnhoff, Traub, Shoemaker and Mellendorf had a single each for the Maroons. A. Bohnhoff picked up the pitching win on a four-hitter with one walk and six strikeouts.

In the second game, Oblong claimed a 2-1 win over Cumberland. Both teams scored a run each in the first inning. Oblong then tallied the winning run in the fifth.

Fear had a single, double and an RBI while Woods had a triple and an RBI. Cumberland was led by Cutts with a single and double.

Dieterich takes on Oblong at 10 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship.

Class 1A Windsor Regional

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg blanked Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 9-0. Mark Jones pitched a one-hitter with two walks and two strikeouts.

Hayden Cole had three singles and two RBI for the winners while Brandon Helmuth had a double and two RBI, Christian Vonderheide and Jacob Kramer had two singles each. Kramer added an RBI.

Windsor/Stew-Stras will now meet the winner of today's Neoga vs. Moweaqua Central A&M game at 11 a.m. Saturday for the championship.

Class 1A Altamont Regional

North Clay (Louisville) edged Brownstown/St. Elmo 3-2 with the winning run coming in the bottom of the eighth.

The Cardinals held a 2-0 lead before BSE scored a run in the third then tied the score in the top of the seventh.

Britton had a single and drove in a run for the winners while Stinnett had two singles and an RBI and McNeely a single and an RBI.

Brownstown/St. Elmo was led by Levi Maxey with a single, double and an RBI. The Bombers end the season with a 16-10 record.

North Clay is now 20-9-1 on the season and advances to the championship game Saturday at 11 a.m. against the winner of today's South Central vs. Altamont contest.

Class 2A Robinson Regional

Teutopolis stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead and went on to blank Robinson 6-0 Wednesday.

Alex Goldstein had a single, double and drove in two runs for the Wooden Shoes. Cody Will had a double and also had two RBI. Justin Kenter added two singles.

Louis Niemerg picked up the pitching win on a five-hitter with no walks and seven strikeouts.

In the second contest, Marshall edged Newton 4-3. The score was tied after three innings a 3-3. Marshall then scored, what would prove to be the winning run in the top of the fifth.

Both teams had eight hits and two errors. Marshall was led by Sanders with three singles and Davidson with a single and two RBI. Huston led Newton with a single and two RBI.

Teutopolis and Marshall will meet for the regional title Saturday at 10 a.m.
