DIETERICH -- Effingham St. Anthony held off Dieterich in high school baseball action Monday evening, 7-5.

The first inning score was 1-1 before St. Anthony edged ahead 4-3 in the third and held a 5-4 lead going into the fifth. St. Anthony then tallied two more runs. Dieterich came back in the bottom of the seventh with a run only to fall short.

Austin Bushur was a hitting machine as he banged out two doubles and a home run. He finished with three RBI. Eli Dasenbrock added two doubles and an RBI while Neil Williams and Jacob Lorenz had a double each. James Kabbes and Drew Gibson had two singles each. Gibson added an RBI.

Dieterich was led by Poe with a single, double and an RBI, Traub with two singles and two RBI and Hartke with two singles.

Teutopolis broke a 1-1 first inning tie with a two-run fourth and went on to down Altamont 7-2.

Bobby Wenthe continued his hot hitting with two singles and a double. Alex Goldstein added a single, double and an RBI while Darren Probst had a double and an RBI. Andy Borries pitched the win on a four-hitter with one walk and four strikeouts to improve to 3-0-1. The Wooden Shoes are now 24-6 overall.

Altamont was led by Garrett Ziegler with two singles.

At Mulberry Grove

Brownstown/St. Elmo broke a 2-2 tie in the third with a four-run inning then tallied five more in the fourth and went on to beat Mulberry Grove 14-9.

Levi Maxey went four-for-six with four singles and drove in four runs. Dalton Parks had a single, double, triple and three RBI while Jacob Behrends had a double, triple and four RBI.

Brownstown/St. Elmo improves to 14-0 on the season.

Neoga blanked Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 11-0 in five innings via the 10-run rule.

The Indians held a 6-0 first inning lead and tallied four runs in the fifth to end the contest.

Walk evened his pitching record at 3-3, going all five innings, allowing three hits and striking out 11 to improve to 3-5. Walk also aided his own cause with a home run and three RBI. Neoga is now 17-7-1 on the season.

At Toledo

Newton scored two runs in the top of the seventh then held off Cumberland in the bottom of the frame for an 11-9 win.

It was a slugfest as Newton had 17 hits while Cumberland had 16 hits. Reis led the Eagles with three singles, a home run and two RBI. Hunter Light lhad three singles, a double and an RBI for Cumberland while Holden Elwood added a single, double, home run and three RBI.

Effingham and Flora split a freshman/sophomore baseball doubleheader. The Hearts won the first game 8-3. Zac Bateman and Kyle Pease had two singles and an RBI each while Brent Beals had a double and Reed Schafer two singles.

Flora was a 13-11 winner in the second contest. Eli Buhrman had a single and double for the Hearts while Pease had two singles and Brogan Hull two singles and two RBI. The Hearts are now 8-15.
